Father Christmas in town: Community Furniture Aid are pleased to announce they are expecting a visit from Father Christmas on Saturday, December 3 from 11am- 12noon at the Tabernacl Vestry, Meadow Street, Pontycymer.

As well as Father Christmas there will be a Christmas Fayre and cake sale with a free cuppa and slice of cake on offer.

Father Christmas may also have a small gift for each child.

Valley Ravens Mini/Junior Rugby: History was made on Sunday, November 13 at Lawrence Park when the Valley Ravens mini/ junior dection played a full programme of fixtures against the Kenfig Hill mini/junior section.

More than 250 spectators gathered to enjoy this exciting new collaborat­ion, fully supported by the WRU.

All age groups displayed exceptiona­l rugby skills and the players showed a mark of respect to our war heroes by holding a two-minute silence before the kick off.

The Valley Ravens will play again at Lawrence Park on Sunday, December 11, when the visitors will be Tonyrefail mini/junior section.

Pontycymer RFC: Saturday, November 26, we have Wales v South Africa (KO 5.30pm) on the big screens. Doors open 12noon with a warm welcome to all.

Dance and Drama Workshops: Valley and Vale are running free children’s workshops at the Workmen’s Hall in Blaengarw. They run from 4pm-5pm for the under 11 age group and from 5pm-7pm for the 12-16 age group. As places are limited please contact Alys at Valley and Vale to register. British Legion: Anyone who would like to join the British Legion would be made very welcome, the branch meets at the Blaengarw Rugby Club, upstairs lounge, on the third Tuesday of every month at 7.30pm.

Pontycymer RFC: The fourth round draw was made recently for this season’s WRU Bowl competitio­n.

Pontycymer rugby club are enjoying a fairytale cup run this year and, for their reward,have been handed a trip to North Wales, on December 10, when they play Wrexham rugby club, at Bryn Estyn Road. have spaces for 8 and 9-year-old boys and girls. Beavers meet on a Tuesday 5.50pm-7pm but are currently full with a waiting list. They could take on more beavers if another leader is found. They are currently working on their safety badge and are planning a Highland Games for St Andrew’s Day.

Both sections recently went on a hike together with the Brownies and Rainbows to raise money for the Scout and Guide Hall. They walked 3km to Cefn signal box where Akela organised for Cefn Gwyrdd to open the signal box and provide refreshmen­ts. This earned all of them a ‘hikes away’ stage 1 badge and some beavers earned explorer activity badges. The cubs earned their navigator badge.

Volunteers are always required for both sections not only in the form of a uniformed leader but also occasional helpers to assist with things like making squash or cleaning up after crafts.

Pyle Life Centre: What’s on at the centre?

Mondays – Basic Skills, Cuppa with a Copper, Digital Skills, Bridges into Work 2, Tang Soo Do Martial Art and Zumba.

Tuesdays – Basic Skills, Revolution­ize Dance, Kyokushin Karate and Dance Maniax Street Dance. Junior Reading Group (8-12 years old) meet on the last Tuesday of the month.

Wednesdays – Basic Skills, Learn Direct Drop In, Weight Watchers, Lego Club, Ballet, Shotokan Karate and Yoga.

Thursdays – Shelta Cymru, Kyokushin Karate, Cynffig Crafts and Hip Hop with Revolution­ize, Reading group (meet first Thursday of month at 7pm and last Thursday of the month at 2pm); the Teenage Group (12-19) meets on the second Thursday of the month.

Fridays – Bounce and Rhyme, Tang Soo Do Martial Art and Gymnastics for Children. Saturdays – Story Time and Craft, Baby Ballet with Revolution­ize and Dance with Revolution­ize.

Talbot Community Centre: Come and meet Father Christmas in his Grotto after he switches on the Christmas Lights at Moriah Place, on Friday, November 25, from 6pm.

There’ll be lots of festive fun and every child gets a present from Santa. Refreshmen­ts available and carol singing to enjoy.

Pyle (and Kenfig Hill) Community Council: Meetings are held in the Talbot Community Centre and are now held on the fourth Tuesday of every month with the next meeting expected on December 27 at 6.30pm.
