Players see red as Bont do the double over Risca

-

PENYBONT carded back-to-back victories over Risca United with this Southern Section Friendly League Cup success at The Ystrad Mynach Stadium, writes Tony Poole.

Last time out, Bont feathered their nest with a 3-1 win over the Cuckoos at the Kymco Stadium in the league.

But in order to complete a quickfire double over the Monmouthshire side, they had to wipe out a 3-2 interval deficit.

Kyran Gardner marked his return to duties from injury with a third-minute goal.

His flag kick took a deflection and the next thing you knew, the ball was nestling in the back of the net.

Though Risca hit back via a big Ben Jones goal, it wasn’t long before Bont led 2-1 courtesy of a Josh Jones tap in on the end of an assist from ex-Llan Ranger Thomas Davies.

But in a complete role reversal, Risca trooped off at half time with a 3-2 lead.

Two defensive howlers from the Bridgend super club led to Brad Baker getting bread and butter goals.

However, it was back to square one in the 53rd minute when Thomas Davies popped up to make it 3-3.

A dust-up then resulted in both sides being reduced to 10 men – Tommy Hodge (Risca) and Kieran Davies were the men who took the early showers.

But it was Bont who carved out a winner with a long range shot from Connor Goldsworthy producing the golden moment of a well contested cup-tie.

Penybont resume Welsh Premiership Southern league duties against Haverfordwest County at Bridge Meadow on Sunday.
