Teams aiming to be back in action after bad weather

-

THREE teams will be hoping to resume league action this Saturday following prolonged breaks, writes Tony Poole

The Division One duo of Cornelly United and Porthcawl Town Athletic both lost matches last weekend to wet pitches.

This Saturday, the Meadow Street boys are due to host high-flying Cadoxton Barry while the Seasiders head to league leaders Cardiff Draconians.

And in Division Two, promotion-seeking Garw, who were without a fixture last weekend, hope to resume away to relegationthreatened AFC Bargoed.

Cornelly was last in action on Bonfire Night when they produced some real fireworks in rocketing to a 5-0 win over Premiership Cardiff Corries in the league’s W J Owen Cup.

That was arguably their best performance of the season, and manager Mark Dewar was disappointed that the International Break then robbed them of momentum.

Cornelly have already met Cadoxton Barry away, going down 3-1 on the opening day of the season back in August.

The Meadow Street boys could only manage a penalty from top scorer Chris Mitchell and will look to do better in the rematch.

However, Cadoxton are fourth and have ground to make up on leaders Cardiff Draconians, AFC Whitchurch and Clwb Cymric.

Porthcawl have the unenviable task of taking on table-topping Cardiff Draconians at Llanidloes Road in Gabalfa.

Draconians with just three loses in 14 league starts, last weekend swept to a 5-1 win at lowly Cwmbach Royal Stars.

Porthcawl have enough games in hand over other lowly clubs to survive.

Garw are one of those rare breeds who still possess a perfect league record in Division One, winning all nine games.

However, they will take nothing for granted in the Rhymney Valley on Saturday against next to bottom AFC Bargoed, who last Saturday lost 3-0 at St Albans.

The Blandy boys currently trail leaders Aberfan by a point with a massive three games in hand.
