Victory for Cefn in local derby

-

THIS hard fought local derby saw Pyle opt to play up the slope and came out of the blocks early with a powerful try by James Chick.

Cefn responded quickly with some great work by No 8 Joe Thomas and some quick hands by Jac Briggs and Dai Matthews led to a try by Justin ReadFlewers who went in at the corner.

Cefn took advantage od poor Pyle discipline and Joe Thomas again led the charge, crashing over for Cefn’s second try, converted by Jac Briggs.

The pressure told with Pyle having to turn in defence, and Cefn were awarded a penalty the Briggs kicked,

It was then Pyle’s time to turn the screw. Pyle exerted their own type of pressure for lengthy periods but Cefn’s defence held firm.

Suddenly, Cefn centre Dai Matthews picked up a loose ball in mid-field to race a full 80 metres to score under the posts. Briggs again converted and Cefn went in at the interval leading 22-5.

Pyle as usual made great use of the slope. Excellent tries from Tom Ansen and Gareth Cox saw Pyle come right back into the game, fly half Lee Jones converting one to make the score 22-17.

Joe Thomas capitalised on good field position to go over for his second try.

Pyle responded in style again, only for the game to be called off early following a severe injury to Pyle’s Xavier Manaseetava. Thankfully the Pyle player was released from hospital early on Saturday morning.
