KEV KICKS OFFwith

I HAVE to say Japan were outstanding and deserved a draw, they were more creative in attack and looked fitter and faster than us.

Their skill level was superb and they are improving all the time, Wales looked tired but it’s a win for Rob Howley and it’s two wins from three and hopefully, the way the Springboks are playing, let’s hope it will be another win for us this Saturday. We will have to cut down our errors against the Springboks and we were definitely lucky to win against Japan. All credit to young Sam Davies on slotting over the winning drop goal in the last minute. I’m a bit disappointed young Keelan Giles didn’t come on for Cuthbert who had another shocker, I suppose the game was intense right to the end. I’m sure he’s got a great future ahead of him.

I see head coach Rob Howley is having a lot of stick after the disappointing performances lately. Some I agree with as the head coach makes the decisions and takes it on chin when not performing. On the other hand, the players have got to front up and ask themselves are they good enough to play international level? It wasn’t long ago when we were winning grand slams. Then he was the best attack coach in the world. I know supporters pay their money and are right to have their say but at the end of the day it’s the players who go on the field and play and make decisions. The coaches put structures and patterns in place but Wales players now have just got to play what’s in front of them. If there are gaps and spaces, attack, don’t just go with the structure. We have become too robotic, but let’s hope we can click against the Springboks on Saturday! C’mon Wales!

It wasn’t good news again for the Ravens, losing to second-bottom club Neath at the Gnoll last Friday. The Ravens drop down to 11th in the league. Matt Silva will be disappointed with that result. Let’s hope they can get a few wins leading up to Christmas.

This Friday I travel to Dubai to meet up with the Gulf Legends team in preparation for the Dubai Vets 10-a-side tournament. We have my ex-Wales RL and Cardiff Blues mate Anthony Sullivan, Steve Thompson and Lee Mears in our team, and it will be good to see local boys Gavin Thomas, Gareth Cooper and Dafydd James playing out there too. Hope the weather is good. I’ll be watching Wales stuff the Springboks on the beach... ha ha.

Congratulations to Cardiff City on a great 3-2 home win over Huddersfield. It was a thrilling game and Cardiff just about deserved the win. Swansea City put in a good performance, drawing 1-1 with Everton but are now are bottom of the league and I won’t be surprised if they get relegated. There seems no ambition in the club, they should have signed Ryan Giggs!

Question: Do you think we will beat the Springboks on Saturday?

Yes, I do, the Springboks have been shocking and our boys know they’ve underperformed this autumn. I think Howley will pick his strongest team, This is what I would pick now. 15 Williams 14 Halfpenny 13 Davies 12 Williams 11 North 10 Biggar 9 Davies 1 Jenkins 2 Baldwin 3 Lee 4 Charteris 5 Alun Wyn Jones 6 Warburton capt 7 Tipuric 8 Moriarty. Hope I’m right and we get a win.
