BANWEN ...................... 22 BRYNCETHIN .............. 20

BRYNCETHIN felt aggrieved at losing this game as a very late dubious referee’s decision snatched what would have been a hard fought victory from them.

Bryncethin had the best of the first 20 minutes but it was Banwen that opened the scoring on their first visit into the Bryncethin 22, they were awarded a penalty which they converted and then added another 10 minutes later.

Back came Bryncethin who then had two penalties in quick succession converted by scrum half Ryan Jones.

Banwen went ahead again five minutes into the second half when they landed another penalty and then increased their lead when they took full advantage of a misdirected pass in the Bryncethin midfield to run in a converted try.

When the home side increased their lead with another penalty to open up a 13 point lead, it looked as if they would take the spoils but to their credit, Bryncethin came back with two converted tries, one from Lloyd Jenkins and the other from Ryan Jones, who also converted both, to snatch a one point lead at 20-19 with eight minutes remaining.

With just 3 minutes re- maining, Banwen were awarded a free kick that was passed directly to their outside half who dropped a goal.

The visiting supporters assumed this would be disallowed as the laws don’t allow such a score.

However, to every- one’s amazement, it was allowed to stand and Banwen were declared winners.

Next week, Bryncethin entertain third placed Crynant and will no doubt put this unfortunate set back behind them and move on looking for a change of fortune.
