PONTYCYMER ............ 29 GLAIS ............................. 3

PONTYCYMER welcomed Glais to Lawrence Park for this clash.

The Green and Ambers continued their six game unbeaten run with a majestic second half display.

It was the Garw Valley side that started the stronger, The home forwards moved quickly from breakdown to breakdown, clearing out their Glais counterparts with the efficiency of a welldrilled commando unit. Ball was sent back at lighting speed, stretching the visiting cover. Ponty pivot Ieuan Evans pinged out passes of at least 57 varieties to runners who seemed to instantly lock on to mis-matches, he also used the cross kick to devasating effect. He had an appreciation of space and his decision making was invariably spot on. But it was the visitors who broke the dead-lock on the 23rd minute when outside half Carl Williams fired over a penalty, This was cancelled out when Pontycymer centre Steve John levelled the scores, The rest of the first half produced plenty of huff and puff, with nothing to show for their efforts. Eye catching first half displays for Ponty, came from flanker Nathan Silverthorne, No 8 Rhys Hosey and centre Andrew Fryer. At half time it remained honours even at 3-3.

The second half was all one way traffic, Pontycymer seemed to pick up the rhythm of the game at will. playing high-tempo rugby. The floodgates opened when replacement centre Tom Davies, danced around the Glais defence to get the opening try, Gellow centre John added the extra points. Minutes later, Ponty got their second when scrum half Geraint Gillet tip-toed over, again John converted. On the hour, it was John who crossed for his side’s third try. He added the conversion taking his match tally to 14 points. It was fitting that home second row Zack James got the bonus point try. James had shown immense power and ability to cross the gain line time after time. It was the introduction of replacements Steve Lacey, Scott Hampton and former Nantymoel hooker Ryan Jenkins that turned the screw, All three played vital cameo roles making the hard yards, sending Glais home with their tail between their legs.

Next up for Pontycymer is a trip to Plough Field, next Saturday were they face table-topping Taibach.
