CAERLEON .................... 3 LLANTWIT MAJOR ...... 4

LUKE Cox lived up to a fox in the box tag, as Llantwit Major just prevailed in this seven-goal thriller at relegation- threatened Caerleon, writes Tony Poole.

The former Penybont star scored twice – giving him five goals for the campaign – as Karl Lewis’s side came late to get the win.

And with the likes of Caerau and Trefelin both tottering, the fifth-placed Windmillers are handily placed for promotion.

They hit the road running at Cold Bath Road, and the Romans were in hot water once a Dale Stephenson rocket sent the visitors steaming in front.

But they didn’t cling on to the lead for long – Lewis Grant cut into the penalty area to power home a low drive.

Cox made his considerable presence felt for a first time on 34 minutes, driving in to the box and finding the bottom of the net.

The Windmillers then had two decent penalty shouts refused, and Caerleon equalised via a Leroy Jones screamer.

It was 2-2 at the turnaround and the Windmillers got their second wind through Jonny Fletcher and Kristian Smith.

It was then the Windmillers who went 3-2 up when a Jake Roberts corner wasn’t cleared, and foxy Cox hit the target.

But instead of warming to their task, the Windmillers blew cold, leading to Ben Woodland squaring matters.

However, they came again, and on the day their attitude led to them winning the day.

The winner stemmed from a 75th-minute whipped cross from Jake Roberts that crafty Cox shipped on to the back post for ex-Bont pal Rhys Llewellyn to head home.

His fourth goal of the season settled the issue, but during the closing exchanges Caerleon threw everything at the Llantwit defence.

However, superb defending from Darren Robinson and Llewellyn ensured Christmas came early at Windmill Lane.
