GARDEN VILLAGE ....... 5 PENYBONT .................... 3

PENYBONT fell further behind West Division pacemakers Cardiff Metropolitan University after sliding to defeat against Garden Village at Stafford Common, writes Tony Poole.

A third league defeat in nine starts left Bont eight points adrift of the Students, who have completed one more game.

In a high-scoring encounter the Bont marksmen were dancing Danny Woolfenden, Joshua Jones and Nicholas Ivey, who really entered into the Christmas spirit.

Meanwhile, in Celtic Tyres Bridgend & District League Division One, Penybont Thirds suffered a 3-1 home defeat against title-chasing Maesteg Park.

The third-placed Tudor Park men – beaten just three times in 12 league matches – now only trail leaders Caerau All Whites by four points.

The Bont scorer was Rafaela Pacheloc.

On Sunday, Penybont U19s went down to a 5-3 home defeat against Cambrian & Clydach in the Welsh Youth League (West).

Though Evan Denscombe briefly gave Bont the lead, it was soon trumped by Cam efforts from Cameron Keetch and Josh Maximovic.

A Rob Symons assist then set up a goal for Connor James, and it was 2-2 at the break.

But three minutes into the second half Jack Laidler conceded an owngoal, and Cam made it 4-2 via Keelan Fackrell.

A Maximovic tap in stretched the lead to 5-2 before Rhys Jordan completed the scoring.

And Penybont Over-50s went down to a 3-2 defeat at Merthyr Town in the South Wales League.

A pinpoint Dai Howland cross led to Peter Morgan giving the Bampy Bonts an early advantage.

But it was 2-1 at the changeover and 3-1 early in the second half before Dicky Steer steered home a consolation goal.
