Beauty & The Beast: This traditiona­l family panto, promises bags of fun, slapstick comedy and sensationa­l singing and dancing.

Starring Owen Money and a fabulous supporting cast, it’s at Maesteg Town Halll on Friday January 20, 7pm; Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 at 2pm.

Urdd Support Events: The following are dates for 2017 organised by the Maesteg Appeals Committee:

January 20 – at Maesteg Rugby Club – Cawl a Chan a Chariad gyda Tim Rees.

February 24 – Proud to be Welsh will be performed by Harmony and Maesteg Gleemen at the Workmen’s Club in Temple Street at 7pm.

Tickets cost £5 from the mayor’s office on 01656 73631, choir members, or the club.

Strictly Cinema: Maesteg Town Hall will be screening Eddie the Eagle – the true story of skier Eddie Edwards, on Wednesday, January 25 at 11am.

There will be prefeature short films including Following the Flame created for the London 2012 Olympic Games by Phill Cope, highlighti­ng the wealth of sporting talent from our borough, as well as a digital story of Councillor Phil John including his basketball career and a surprise ‘as live’ guest interview with one of the cast members of Eddie the Eagle.

The film stars Welsh actor Taron Egerton as Eddie Edwards, a British skier who in 1988 became the first competitor to represent Great Britain in Olympic ski jumping.

Maesteg Gleemen: New members are welcome to come along to Maesteg RBL at 7pm Mondays and Thursday to join this forward thinking choir whose 2017 calender is filling up quickly.

Dunraven Young Singer: The Young Singer of the year 2017 heats will be held on January 28 at Maesteg Town Hall.

The groups are 11-14, 15-18 and seniors age 19-31.

Last year it was decided to open the competitio­n to all of Wales for the first two groups, the seniors always having been so.

Previously the younger one was specifical­ly for schools in BCBC.

However, it’s good to know that young people from the borough are in these heats.

Côr Meibion: On Saturday, February 4, Maesteg Male Voice choir will be holding their 42nd annual concert at the wonderful Town Hall in Maesteg.

The concert will commence at 7pm with the doors opening at 6.30pm and it is hoped a full house will enjoy a varied programme of music which the choir will sing, together with the soloists for the evening.

The soprano for the evening will be Angharad Lisbeth Rees who hails from Pontrydyfe­n and appeared with the choir in 2013 giving a very accomplish­ed performanc­e.

Angharad is also an honorary member of the Gorsedd of Bards.

The Bass will be Huw Euron from Cardiff who is also a member of Only Men Aloud and the whole concert will be compered by newsreader for the BBC Rebecca John who herself has links with Maesteg as her father was a teacher at Maesteg comprehens­ive school.

New Skills: Do you fancy the opportunit­y of learning new skills, making new friends and being part of a fantastic community woodland project that will bring tremendous benefit to the communitie­s of the Upper Llynfi Valley?

Come and join us for a new year get together on Thursday, January 19 at 6.30pm in the Llynfi Library Gallery, Maesteg Sports Centre where a warm welcome and tasty food awaits. All organized and arranged by the Spirit of Llynfi Valley Woodland Group.

New Men’s Shed: Advance notice that here will be an event on the afternoon of Friday January 13 at Noddfa Chapel Community centre to provide informatio­n about a new men’s group we are planning on setting up in Caerau.

The group is a Men’s Shed and will focus on activities that the men are particular­ly interested in, so a key part of this event would be to find out what activities local men would like to get involved in.

Free Courses Available: There are lots of free courses available from diabetic cooking to paediatric first aid, yoga, post-pregnancy cycling for new mums and food saftey as well as dancing and much more.

History Society: The Llynfi Valley Historical Society is at 7pm on the first Tuesday of each month at their new venue of St David’s Church (opposite Asda). They are due to meet next on February 7.
