High-five for Penybont DIVISION ONE

-

PENYBONT .................... 5 UNDY ATHLETIC .......... 0

TO SAY Penybont owed Undy Athletic one would be understating things, writes Tony Poole.

The Bridgend super club were humbled 4-0 at the top-flight newcomers back in August, and in October 2014 Undy won 1-0 at The Kymco Stadium in the Nathaniel Cars League Cup.

So, a first win over the Monmouthshire side was long overdue and it was eventually garnished with panache.

Two goals apiece for the on-fire pairing of Marcus Griffiths and Josef Hopkins led the way while their other hitman, Cullen Kinsella, was again in prime form as was Kane Owen.

Undy were one degree under as early as the fifth minute when Kinsella swung the ball over for Marcus Griffiths to fire past goalkeeper Jimmy Smallcombe.

That settled Bont and 12 minutes later, Owen played a ball into the box from the left, leading to Kinsella scoring.

His magnificent seventh goal of the season left Undy tottering and only a fine Smallcombe save then denied Marcus Griffiths.

But they were out of it on 27 minutes once Hopkins latched on to a delicious Kinsella pass to score with ease.

Just before the break a Hopkins header, on the end of an Owen ball, tested goalkeeper Smallcombe, and it was 3-0 at half time.

And fans had only just taken up positions again when Marcus Griffiths struck again with a sweet 16th goal of the season.

Griffiths and Owain Warlow were then rested with Harrison Collins and fit again Kyran Gardner departing the bench.

However, Bont weren’t finished and a slick 67thminute passing move resulted in them making it 5-0.

Billy Borge and substitute Collins send Kinsella away, allowing Josef Hopkins to move a seasonal goal tally on to the six-mark.

By now all Undy wanted to hear was the final whistle but late on Thomas Atyeo twice went close from corners.

Bont now move on to Goytre United on Saturday and will be looking to overturn a 2-1 home defeat back in September.

Early headers from the Goytre duo of Dean Hudson and Ryan Griffiths on this occasion trumped an Adam Carpenter goal.
