THE District team, chosen from top clubs in the Ospreys League Division A, attacked with determination.

The Athletic held the onslaught in their 22. The District forwards in the loose maul were pushing for the line but the Athletic held them at bay. A pass from full back Sam Richards to Stuart Floyd-Ellis saw the centre sprinting towards the District line and in spectacular fashion scored the first try.

Not to be outdone, the District team regrouped and again attacked. From a scrum in the Athletic 22, the District full back Callum Powell made no mistake with a penalty.

From a scrum in the District’s 22 came the the Athletic’s second try.

They pushed for the line and it was left to hooker Cameron Thomas to score.

Some great kicking by the District full back Powell and their outside half Drew Price was putting pressure on the Athletic defence. From a maul, Cameron Thomas fed the ball to Dan James and a pass to Jon Taylor eventually found winger Tom James who scored in the corner to make the score 15-3 at half-time.

From the restart, both teams used their replacements to their advantage and it was the Athletic that took the advantage of fresh players and from a maul, a pass from Stuart Floyd-Ellis to left winger Joe Patterson saw him outrun the defence to make the score 20-3.

The Athletic’s fifth try saw Jon Taylor receiving the ball in his own 22 and sprinting down the left then cutting inside to score a spectacular try close to the posts making it easy for full back Sam Richards to convert.

Late in the game, pressure and good passing saw the District No 8 cross for a consolation try.

All in all this was a great game played with determination by both sides watched by a large crowd of supporters at the Bridgendford Brewery Field.
