Christian Aid Big Breakfast: This event will be held in Nolton Church Hall on Saturday, February 4, from 9.30am- 11.30am. Come along and support the work of Christian Aid and enjoy a breakfast of sausage, bacon, beans and toast, plus tea or coffee. There is a vegetarian option available. The cost is just £3. Please let the Church Hall staff know.

Curate of Nolton: Rev Jayne Shaw has been appointed by the Archbishop as Priest in Charge of the Parish of Cilybelyll, near Pontardawe. Jayne will take up her new post some time after Easter.

Sad News: It is with much regret that I report the passing of Mr Alan MaGaw. Alan who had not been the best of health for some time passed away peacefully at the Princess of Wales Hospital on January 14.

Alan and his late wife Hilary where landlords of the King’s Head on Nolton Street for 24 years.

Much sympathy and love to Alexis, Helen and Matthew and their families.

Bridgend Townwomen’s Guild: The guild meet on the second Wednesday of each month in Hope Baptist Church Institute, Derwen road at 2pm.

They have a talk or other forms of entertainm­ent and end the afternoon with tea and biscuits. There is also annual trips and several half day trips to places of interest.

Penybont Reunion: Mrs Rita Richards is organising a Class reunion and she is hoping to find as many of all her former class mates as possible.

The year is 1947 - 1948 at Penybont Junior School, Quarella Road, Bridgend.

The Quakers: Meet every Sunday at 10.45am for an hour at the Quaker Meeting House, 87 Park Street. Members always look forward to welcoming anyone who is interested in finding out more. Contact 01656 648817.

The Ladies Guild: Thursday mornings there is a Baby and Toddler Group at 9.30am held in the School Room, Station Hill. Sunday’s Cool (Sunday school) is held at 10am and services are held, morning service at 10.30am and evening at 6pm. And of course all are very welcome.

Bridgend U3A: The History Group meet next on Monday, February 13, at 2pm.

Continuing with the Champions of Change theme, a talk on the subject of The Pankhursts will be given by Lynne Macintyre. The group meet at the Scout Hall on Llangewydd Road, Bryntirion. All are welcome.

The general meeting of Bridgend U3A will take place on Monday, February 20, with a talk on the subject Holbein who was Henry VIII’s Spin Doctor.

The group meet at the Brackla Community Centre, 1 Whitethorn Drive, Brackla, at 2pm.

Coffee Morning: Join us at Bridgend United Church on Tondu Road every Friday and Saturday between 10am-12noon.

All are very welcome, so come along and enjoy a lovely cuppa of tea or coffee, biscuits, and cake and a chat.

Coity Flower Club: The club meets on the first Tuesday of each month in Coity Church Hall, Coity, and new members are always very welcome.

Bridgend Writers’ Circle: The group meet on the first Thursday of the month at Carnegie House (former library) Wyndham Street at 7.15pm.

The group will be holding a Short Story Competitio­n and are inviting you to submit one or two stories of 1,500-1,800 words to their annual competitio­n.

Entry cost is £5 for one story and £7.50 for two stories. 1st prize is £200, 2nd prize £50 and 3rd prize £30.

The competitio­n is also supported by Chapter Art Centre, Cardiff, who are providing other prizes

The judge will be Laura Foakes and the closing date is St David’s Day, March 1.

Social Afternoon: Carol and Paul, Steward and stewardess of the Railway Club on Coity Road have started a Social Afternoon every Tuesday, from 1pm-4pm. Food, bingo, raffle and music for just £2

Bridge MPS / The Zone: The Bridge MPS would like to thank the people of Bridgend who have been so generous in their support of The Zone Family Centre situated 4648 Dunraven Place.

The centre is open from 10am-12noon on Wednesdays for people to receive food items at on charge.

Also on Friday mornings Men’s Mental Health group meet from 10am-12noon. All are very welcome.

Book Fair: The next Lions Club of Bridgend Annual Charity Book Fair will take place in April 2017 at Westward Community Centre Cefn Glas.

Why not donate unwanted books to Bridgend Lions? Books can be handed in at the new collection centres at Westward Community Centre, Cefn Glas, on Sundays from 10.30am11.30am and at Aberkenfig Welfare Hall, Hope Avenue, Aberkenfig, weekdays from 10.30am.

Bridgend Local & District History Society: The group have changed their venue and now meet at Carnigie House (former Library) Wyndham Street.

The next meeting will be on the second Wednesday of the month, February 8, at 7pm. Phil Cox will entertain members with a talk on the subject of Friends of the Newport Ship.

Bridgend Carers Community Cafe: This takes place every Wednesday at Bridgend Carers Centre, 87 Park Street, open from 12.30pm-1.30pm.
