Holocaust Memorial: Last Friday, January 27, was National Holocaust Memorial Day.

A very special day for those wishing to remember all who died in our world wars and those recent wars like Bosnia etc.Some years ago, I travelled to Austwitz and saw the horrors for myself.

Displays of children’s clothing, spectacles, piles of shoes and other personal items – taken from 1.5 million Jewish people who were about to be gassed.

We walked through those gas chambers in total silence thinking about those people who were to be gassed.

We went from building to building witnessing the beds they were dragged from, thinking of the horror they were to shortly endure.

Never let us forget these people who died because of their faith!

Sandville Self Help Centre: Next Sunday, Sandville will celebrate its 34th Anniversary with an annual Thanksgiving Service at All Saints Church, Porthcawl.

Founded by Sister Gwyneth Poacher MBE, and her team convened then in The Sandville Hotel, Porthcawl.

It took several years before the building they are housed in now, became available, that was the Pen-y-Mynydd nightclub.

That club was very popular in its time, several hundred people would go there each weekend. Now, of course, it’s an amazing charity helping older people each day and providing respite for some.

The Anniversary service will commence at 3pm in All Saints – you’re very welcome to attend – I will be there!
