Columnist Needed: I have enjoyed bringing you news of the Parish over many years but now feel it is time to let someone else take up the reins. If you are interested please contact me or the Glamorgan Gazette.

Sad News: It is with regret that we report the sudden death of Rob Thomas of Ewenny Road. Rob was well known for his love of books, as borne out by his large collection in Cowbridge where you could always find an interestin­g read.

The funeral will take place tomorrow Friday, February 3, at 2.45 pm in Coychurch Crematoriu­m. We send our heartfelt sympathy to wife Cath and children Bryony and Edward.

Congratula­tions: Best wishes to David and Beth Lewis and their new baby Sophie, a first grandchild for Sue and Barry Lewis of the Fox & Hounds.

Knit & Natter: On 17 January members met for lunch in the Watermill, Ogmore. Why not come along at 10.30am on the third Tuesday of the month (February 20) to All Saints, Southerndo­wn. Projects have included poppies for Remembranc­e Day, items for the premature baby unit, blankets and knitwear for residents of local homes. All welcome.

Mothers Union: The first meeting of 2017 for St Brides Major Branch was a lunch in the Fox & Hounds. Coffee morning on February 7, in All Saints, Southerndo­wn. Monthly meeting at 7.30pm on February 14, in St Brides Major Church Hall.

Women’s Institute: Southerndo­wn WI will meet on February 9, at 7.15 pm, in the Church Hall, St Brides Major.

Community Council: An Ordinary Meeting will be held in All Saints, Southerndo­wn, on February 13, from 7pm.

Village Library: Open on Wednesdays from 3.30pm6pm and Saturdays from 10am-12 noon in the Church Hall, St Brides Major. The library is run by a friendly team of volunteers and there is a good selection of books from Llantwit Major Library which are changed on a regular basis.

Zumba Class: Meet on Mondays in St Brides Major Primary School, from 8pm-9pm, for a fun, easy and energetic Latininspi­red dance fitness class suitable for people over 16 years of age.

Tea & Chat: A friendly open meeting from 10.30am-12noon every Saturday in the Church Hall, St Brides Major.

Church News: The charity of the month is The National Autistic Society. Donations of used stamps and postcards to raise funds for Children in Distress always welcome.

On Sunday 5 February Holy Eucharist and Patronal Service at 11 am in St Bridget’s followed by Parish Lunch in St Brides Church Hall.

Keep Fit: Classes held every Tuesday at 7pm in the Scout Hall, St Brides Major. Take along a mat or old bath towel for floor work. Nothing too strenuous. All welcome.

Mother’s Union: The next monthly meeting will be at 7.30pm on February 14 in St Brides Major Church Hall.

Village Market: The next event on Saturday, February 11, from 10.30am-12.30pm in St Brides Major Church Hall.

Green Garden Waste: The fortnightl­y collection of green-bag garden waste has now ceased until spring. The request service can be contacted on 01446 700111. paid for the visit of Pyramid Pantomimes in the last week of term when children (and staff) were able to enjoy the story of Aladdin.

If you caught up with the posts on Twitter during the performanc­e, you’ll have seen what a wonderful opportunit­y this was for the whole school community.

Community Council: The next meeting of Wick Community Council is on Thursday, February 16m at 7.30pm in the Sports Pavilion.

Painting Workshop: There will be a Painting Animal Portraits Workshop with Carol Kibble on Saturday February 25, from 10am3pm in Wick Village Hall, costing £35.

New Vicar: Craig Vaughan, the new Team Vicar, should be moving into the Wick Vicarage in early March and his licensing will be in St Illtud’s Church, Llantwit Major on Monday, March 27, at 7.30pm.

Planning: An applicatio­n has been submitted for the removal of trees and various works to other trees at St James’ Church.
