Powerful first-half display sees Nanty close gap on the leaders

-

A TREMENDOUS first half display by Nantyffyllon which produced three superb converted tries saw Nanty narrow the gap on leaders Taibach with Nanty looking sharp from the off it didn’t take long to get the scoreboard moving.

Second row Jason Davies took good line out ball, the forwards drove towards the line before scrum half Jonny Phillips fed wing Chad George who stepped inside the fullback for a great try.

The second try came when Phillips took a quick tap inside his own twentytwo and made good ground before spreading the ball across the backs and flanker Ross Boast showed great pace by outpacing the defence to touch down under the sticks.

A Taibach scrum on their ten metre line saw them heel quick ball which the scrum half couldn’t collect and Phillips took full advantage to get his backs moving and centre David Tabor streaked away for the try.

McCuckin added the points from the two tries.

Taibach got a little momentum and landed a penalty and the forwards drove over just on the stroke of half time.

The second period was frantic as expected with Taibach trying to narrow the gap by attacking on every opportunity and Nanty trying to extend their lead.

Taibach added one more penalty before Nanty got their fourth and bonus point try.

Nanty put a penalty into touch near the five metre line and kept the pressure on the visitors until their defence was breached and lock Liam Griffiths powered over.
