CEFN ............................ 34 RHIGOS ........................ 11

CEFN’S top of the league position looked under serious threat after the fine start to this game made by a young, well-drilled and tough Rhigos side.

Rhigos went ahead with an early penalty following yet another Cefn infringement at the breakdown. Rhigos then went further ahead following some good handling and poor defensive shape by Cefn to score a well-worked try.

The home side hardly touched the ball in the first 20 minutes, until the backs suddenly sprang to life with the Cefn backs this time showing how to play the game.

Excellent handling of their own saw skipper and centre Owen Davies fly over for a great score. Quality fly half Gareth duly converted. This was quickly followed by another fine try, this time from a break by scrum half Owen Attwood, who made a quick break from the loose to scoot over.

Rhigos responded with another penalty for Cefn to go in 12-11 leaders at the break.

Cefn, in much better fettle in the second half, raised their game with prop Gavin Reffel showing up with his all-round power game in the tight and the loose. Centre Owen Davies got his sec- ond try; again tremendous interplay from hard working flanker Craig Williams, and hooker Karl Davies putting the skipper over for Lewis to again convert. Lewis followed up with another penalty.

In the final minutes Cefn ran in another two tries, one spectacular effort from their own 22 metre kick out saw winger Tom Carpenter to collect and draw the cover defence and pass back inside to solid centre Rob Matthews supported by co-centre Owen Davies. The whole move resulted in another exceptional try, this time for winger Carpenter. Cefn then drove home the advantage with a final score from replacement Nicky Giles.
