LLANGYNWYD RANGERS ...................... 1 PONTLOTTYN ............... 0

LEWIS KINGDON struck midway through the second half to earn Llangynwyd Rangers all three points against Pontlottyn, writes Tony Poole.

But with teams below the Llan Siro boys also winning, they remain just a point above the drop zone that continues to be occupied by Betws, Llantwit Fardre and Cardiff Corries.

Having lost the reverse match to the final South Wales Senior League champions in 2015, going down 5-3, the goal fest wasn’t repeated in the rematch.

In fact the opening exchanges proved a jittery affair with the Llan Siro boys almost getting caught out on two occasions by decent counterattacking.

But once they settled, Llan began to get some joy down the flanks through stinging Nathan Watkins darts and penetration from Lewis Kingdon and Jack Thomas.

A flurry of yellow cards was produced in the run up to half time, and it was just as well the break came at the right time.

It gave passions time to cool and on the restart, Scott South controlled the direction of the game.

On the hour, Llan thought they had the lead when Dean Williams headed home in powerful fashion, but the referee deemed a foul in the build up

But 10 minutes later they did go ahead from a piercing left-wing thrust that ended in Kingdon getting a fifth goal of the season.

Hungry Lloyd Ham and Thomas then worked the goalkeeper but during dying embers, Pont almost got an equaliser.

Home fans breathed a sigh of relief when the woodwork came to their rescue, and eventually Llan managed to wind down the clock and card just a sixth league win of the season.

This Saturday, Llan Rangers visit AFC Butetown in search of a double, having caused fireworks during the Bonfire Night clash after carding a sparkler of a 5-2 win.
