Young Singer: What a fantastic day it was at Marsteg Town Hall on Saturday, January 28. Participan­ts from all over Wales had been selected to compete in one of three categories: 11-14 and 15-18 and seniors making their way in the world of music.

It was the heats for the prestigiou­s Dunraven Welsh Young Singer of the Year and the finals will be held at the hall in March.

Finalists in the senior section will be a soprano, a tenor and two bass baritones on Wednesday, March 29, from 11am at Maesteg Town Hall.

Mayor’s Fund Events: Forthcomin­g events include:

March 1 – St David’s Day Night with the Starsat Caerau Athletic Club (the Riverboat), at 6.45pm. Tickets £6.

March 4 – Celebratio­n of Internatio­nal Women’s Day at Central Church, Maesteg, from 11am to 3pm. Tickets £2 including refreshmen­ts

March 31 – Resistance to Murder, a hilarious murder mystery play based on the French Resistance in World War II with a prize if you can identify the murderer at the Workingmen’s Club, Maesteg, 7pm. Tickets £8 including a buffet.

Côr Merched: The choir will be appearing in concert with Côr Meibion Maesteg a’r Cylch on St David’s Day while rehearsing for their concert in Maesteg Town Hall on April 7.

In May it’s off to London to perform at the London Sangerstev­ne. This will include an appearance at Cadogan Hall, Chelsea.

Côr Meibion Maesteg: At Cylch host a St David’s day concert at the Bethel Community Centre on Wednesday, March 1, at 7pm with admission by programme at £5.

Sharing the stage will be Côr Merched Cwn Llynfi (Llynfi Valley Ladies Choir) and Col Canto. The compere for the evening will be Huw Thomas BBC son of well known local doctor Noel Thomas.

The programme for the evening has been very kindly sponsored by Maesteg Motor House.

History Society: The Llynfi Valley Historical Society is at 7pm on the first Tuesday of each month at their new venue of St David’s Church (opposite Asda). They meet next on March 7.

Yoga Class: St David’s Church holds weekly ‘seated yoga’ classes, on Mondays from 10.30am11.30am (except bank holidays). £4 per session.

Maesteg WI: We meet on the third Thursday of every month (except August) from 7pm at Maesteg Rugby Club in the upstairs lounge.

Rambling Along: Maesteg Ramblers will meet this coming Sunday at 9am for the Cwmgrach walk. Call 07983 970179 or visit the website at www.maestegram­blers. All welcome, but you walk at your own risk.

Nanty Sport: Llynfi Valley Table Tennis is open every Friday from 6.30pm-9pm, at Maesteg Sports Centre.
