JONNY McEachen defied wet conditions to lift last week’s Senior Stableford competition at Coed-y-Mwstwr with a respectable 37 points.

Constant light rain led to just 15 members teeing it up with none of them managing a two.

McEachen, who was last successful during a similar event back in November, on this occasion fired nine pars and a lone blob came on the 16th hole over the tall trees.

Though runner-up Richard T Commander failed to score on the opening hole, he was in command after going birdie on hole nine and collecting six pars.

He completed his round with 34 points to finish three points clear of Philip Davies and Southerndown beach boy Barrie Delaney.

Keith Carpenter chiselled 28 points to finish fifth in front of captain David B Ford-Williams, who signed for 26 points.

And the fighting qualities of feisty competitor D R Stead surfaced during a gritty round of 23 points.

Meanwhile, last Saturday Sammy Slennett staged his Captain’s Drive In that took in a scramble format.

The winners were Wendy Asquith, Rory and Steve O’Connell along with Stephen Morgan on the strength of 63-7 = 56.
