PORTHCAWL TOWN ATHLETIC ...................... 4 TONYREFAIL ................ 1

CONFIDENCE is a priceless asset, and it’s beginning to surface at long last at Porthcawl Town Athletic, writes Tony Poole.

Having turned their season around last time out in gaining a surprise 5-4 win at high-flying AFC Whitchurch, the Seasiders were pinching themselves after making it back-toback wins.

The return of Michael Booth from a skiing holiday was just what the doctor ordered, and his prescription was to retain possession in order to open up the Tonyrefail defence.

And it took them just 10 minutes for the plan to work wonders when a partially cleared corner ran into the path of Jorge Crofts.

His driven cross back into the red zone was then converted by top scorer Andrew Fisher into a 10th goal of the campaign.

Another goal soon followed when Fisher turned provider in seizing possession and laying it off in quick fashion.

And his cut back was turned in at the near post by Morgan Thomas, who celebrated a seventh goal this time around.

Two fine saves then prevented Porthcawl going four goals up, but the first-half goal fest was far from finished.

With Ton unable to cope with the buoyant Seasiders going forward, top marks went to Jordan Marks for a timely pass that picked out big gun Thomas Warren.

Though the evergreen performer and goal-scoring aren’t happy bed partners, a Warren headed goal was as rare a sight as him standing a round of drinks.

That made it 3-0 and the next goal proved a landmark one, as it was the 50th team goal this term.

It deservedly went to Crofts, who picked the ball up in the right channel, and his goal made it nine for the season.

Back came Ton to make it 4-1 at the changeover and given the goal avalanche, it was surprising the second half was goalless.

Ton came more on to the Lock’s Lane radar on the resumption and some fine Tom Booth saves protected the three-goal advantage.

However, it was far from one-way traffic with Porthcawl setting up chances that during the first half went in.

Fisher, Crofts and Thomas were all denied during final knockings, but by now the Seasiders were home and dry.

This Saturday, Porthcawl head for bottom club Cwmbach Royal Stars, and will be bidding for three wins on the trot.
