PENYBONT Veterans came from two goals down midway through the second to secure a share of the spoils against Swan-

The Swansea side led 2-1 at the break and 3-1 on the hour before Betws starlet Byron Silva-Rees struck gold.

Having netted for the Bampy Bonts before the break, Silva not only went on to complete a hat-trick, but was also responsible for their fourth goal.

In the Celtic Tyres Bridgend & District League Division One, Penybont suffered late heartbreak during a 2-1 loss at Carne Rovers.

With the game seemingly heading for a 1-1 stalemate, Carne knocked in a late winner to keep their title hopes alive.

With the top three clubs having all completed 12 games, Caerau All Whites still lead the way on goaldifference from Pencoed Athletic while Carne are just one point shy.

Carne had the lead until the 75th minute when Jamie Hodgkinson brought the Bridgend super club back on terms.

But ultimately, it was the Garw Valley side who had the last laugh via the last-gasp winner.

And there was no joy for Penybont Ladies in the Alan Evans League Cup quarter-final at Splott Albion.

The Bont girls were never really in the hunt and slid to a 5-0 defeat. LLANGYNWYD Rangers have signed goalkeeper Dylan Williams from Port Talbot & District League club Gwynfi United, writes Tony Poole.

The Highadmit South Wales Alliance Premier League club were short of a goal stopper after Rhys Fisher signed last month for Division Two promotion hopefuls Cefn Cribwr.

Williams was at the Llan Siro at the start of the season, but opted for a move to The Cape in order to secure regular first-team action.

Though his arrival back at Llan is timely, he missed out on action last Saturday, as the home game with Grange Albion was called off in midmorning.

The wet state of the Llan Siro was the reason for it being added to an end-ofseason schedule.

“Disappointed that the Grange Albion game was postponed because we wanted to build on the splendid 5-4 win at AFC Butetown the previous week,” said Llan Rangers manager Mark Jenkins.

“But we’ll go again on Saturday at former Welsh League club Cardiff Corries.’’

The trip to Radyr on Saturday will represent a first Llan visit to the Riverside ground in the league.

However, earlier in the season when the sides locked horns in the league it ended 2-2 with Lewis Kingdon and Lloyd Howells on target for the Llan Siro boys.

Meanwhile, behind the scenes things are at last moving in the right direction with regard to asset transfer.

The club is currently in the midst of an independent assessment of the pavilion with special attention being given to two boilers.

Drainage issues are also coming under the microscope along with the troubled broken culvert and state of the car park.

And a meeting will take place shortly with officers of Bridgend County Borough Council (BCBC) to thrash out these issues.

At the moment, past frustrations seem a thing of the past thanks to the efforts of new transfer asset co-ordinator Guy Smith.

“Guy Smith has been like a breath of fresh air, all in all he’s very approachable, and that hasn’t always been the case,” said Llan Rangers secretary Gavin Brewster.

He went on: “We’re also getting superb support from the Coal Board Regeneration Trust, and they too are looking to steer clear of any bottle necks.”
