ing Mixed Martial Arts with his brother Dan who had done some boxing and MMA wrestling and Brazilian Jujistu.
After a few training sessions, he was hooked and became obsessed with learning all the styles required in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).
While at university, he had three amateur fights and won them all with first round finishes.
He graduated in 2013 and it was at this time he set up a sports nutrition and health supplement company, Peak Supps, based on Bridgend Industrial Estate.
In 2015, he entered trials and was selected for the UK team competing in the World Championships in Las Vegas.
The IMMAF world championships is the elite level of amateur MMA.
At the IMMAF world championships, Josh had four fights over a five-day tournament and beat other athletes that were considered the best amateur MMA fighters from their countries.
He won a gold medal for team UK in the IMMAF World Championships in Las Vegas and was crowned the World Amateur Lightweight 70Kg Champion. It was one of his best achievements to date.
As an undefeated amateur (8-0-0), he is now looking to continue his unbeaten record in the professional ranks.
He now fights out of The Mat Academy, a martial arts academy based in the Pacific Super Gym in Pontypridd.
Josh makes his pro debut on Cage Warriors Wales in Newport and said: “I am hoping to have great support and have been pleased with the support I have received through social media through my Twitter and Instagram accounts @ joshellismma.”
