NATHANIEL CARS WELSH LEAGUE DIVISION THREE

LLANTWIT MAJOR ...... 0 TREHARRIS ATH WESTERN ...................... 0

LLANTWIT Major can thank their lucky stars that goalkeeper Jack Landsdown was in tip-top form against lively Treharris Athletic Western at Windmill Lane, writes Tony Poole.

He was deservedly handed the man-of-thematch accolade after some telling saves prevented the Windmillers from losing in the league for only a second time this season.

Though the loss of two points to mid-table Treharris wasn’t the end of the world for promotionchasing Llantwit Major, the blow was softened by leaders STM Sports also only scrambling a draw against Trethomas Bluebirds at Bedwas RFC.

And with Caerau inactive, it was a case of as you were at the top with the third-placed Windmillers trailing STM by nine points with six games in hand.

That will be the situation on Saturday when Llantwit Major visit STM Sports in the Division Three match of the day.

Going into the clash with Treharris, manager Karl Lewis was without Jonny Butler, Connor Goldsworthy, Lee Jones, Rhys Llewellyn and rocket man Dale Stephenson.

That represented a Major loss, but on the day they couldn’t have complained if they had suffered a big loss.

Twice during the opening half, Treharris striker Jaymie Wearn was denied by the brilliance of Lands- down.

That said the Windmillers went close when Rob Jones struck a post – and little changed on the resumption.

With ex-Penybont star Craig Reddy pulling the strings for Treharris, they were consistently the dominant force.

Once again it was a case of Landsdown alone denying Treharris with Wearn again frustrated by the in-form stopper.

That meant as time dragged on, a point was the best case scenario for Llantwit Major – and so it proved.
