HIGHADMIT SOUTH WALES ALLIANCE DIVISION TWO

-

CARDIFF HIBERNIAN . 0 GARW ............................. 6

THERE was never any prospect of unbeaten leaders Garw suffering a 19th nervous breakdown against Cardiff Hibernian at Ely Recreation Ground, writes Tony Poole.

Having won in the fast lane in the W J Owen Cup the week before at Premier Division club Brecon Corries, reaching the semi-finals in the process, it was back to the crawler grind in the capital against relegation- threatened Hibs.

But a ninth clean sheet of the season from starstopper Tommy Lewis ensured the Blandy boys reeled in a 19th straight league win of the season.

And incredibly, Lewis has leaked only 14 league goals all season.

The result was also achieved minus some household names on the Blandy scene in injured Kris Evans, and the unavailable duo of captain fantastic Lewis Davies and Jimmy Hardwick.

Though doubt was cast on the game going ahead – owing to saturated goalmouths – buckets of sand cemented a prompt start.

Garw sparkled from the outset in Ely with budding star Nathan Rose and Jason James never far from the action.

James once more threw a constant supply of darts into the box, leading to some bull’s eyes on the scoresheet.

An unsavoury early incident led to Hibs being reduced to 10 men, and they were spitting nails once Garw assumed control.

The charge in front of goal was led by twogoal man Lewis James; twin brothers Harry and Oliver Davies also netted while two owngoals completed the scoring.

Next up for Garw is a visit from Llanrumney United, who last month suffered a 7-1 cup mauling against the Blandy boys.

On that occasion it was “Harry’s Game” alright with the young ex-Penybont star knocking in a hat-trick.

Meanwhile, Garw will go into the cup semifinals draw with neighbours Cefn Cribwr, Cardiff Draconians and Ynyshir.
