WJ OWEN CUP QUARTER-FINAL

-

CEFN CRIBWR .............. 3 FC CWMAMAN ............. 3 (aet Cefn won on penalties)

CEFN Cribwr entertained FC Cwmaman in the quarter-finals of the WJ Owen cup.

In the early exchanges either side could have taken the lead with a number of clear-cut chances missed.

The breakthrough came in the shape of home team’s playmaker Dan Jenkins who cleverly beat the keeper and slotted the ball home. The lead didn’t last long when a through ball was latched onto by Cwmamans striker who made no mistake with the finish. The remainder of the first half saw the visitors create chances and the pressure told when a goal mouth scramble ended with the ball finding its way into the net.

The second half started with Cefn having the lion’s share of possession but failing to find the net, A change of formation proved to be a master stroke when an equaliser came from captain Tom Harris with a few minutes left to play to see the tie go into extra time.

Extra time and the home side looked in full control when they took the lead with a second goal from captain Tom Harris. As expected, the visitors threw caution to the wind and came up trumps with a goal on the stroke of full time to send the game into a penalty shootout.

The shootout was the stage for home goalkeeper and hero for the day Richard Jones who saved every penalty to send the home side through.

The reserve team won 7-1 away to FC Maesteg and the Development won 5-1 away at Garw which rounded up a fantastic day for the club.

We would like to thank David Williams of DWEP electrical and plumbing for being match day sponsor and also like to thank the supporters for turning up in droves yet again.
