Councillor prepares for marathon
HE had never run any distance before in his life.
So when John Spanswick, from Brackla in Bridgend, decided to start training for the London Marathon in October he faced a long and dark winter pounding the streets.
Now – after five months of 6.30am starts that take him all around Brackla where he serves as a councillor – he is in the final stages of preparation for the London Marathon on April 23.
He said: “I thought taking on the London Marathon is as big a challenge as I could give myself.
“I am looking to raise as much money and awareness as possible about the Stroke Association and the great work undertaken by them both locally and nationally.
“Every pound raised will be going straight to the Stroke Association as I am personally covering all the costs involved leading up to and including the event.”
