Commonwealth Day: Last Monday, March 13 was Commonwealth Day and I was asked to ‘Raise the Flag’ by Cornelly Community Council at Corneli Primary school which has a new flagpole.
A number of Community Council members attendedincluding its chairwoman, Coun Sue Bennett.
Children came from all three Cornelly schools and three children representing the schools, assisted me with the flag raising.
Thanks to all three schools for their attendance – much appreciated!
Mayor’s Citizenship Awards: Last Friday was the annual Mayor’s Citizenship Award ceremony at which the Mayor Awards all who have made a major contribution to their area.
These awards are made to voluntary work, charity fund raising or all round excellent citizenship.
The Mayor, Coun Reg Jenkins, presented 22 awards including two from Cornelly. The council chamber was packed.
Cornelly and District Luncheon Club being one, which provides a two-course lunch each Tuesday and Thursday from 12.15 for just £4.50
Then Susan Roberts, who attends St Mary Magdaleine Church Mawdlam, for her charity fundraising in Cornelly, Pyle and Kenfig Hill.
To me, there was a very special award to Pil Primary School. This was made to staff following the pupil who collapsed with a cardiac arrest.
Black Bin Bags: I’ve been reminded that the new
recycling regime will commence in June – not in May as I had previously written.
This item concerns me very much. Families totalling five members, will have two bags per fortnight collected.
Our collection day for black bag collection is Friday - I see, and have counted, 23 black bags outside a bungalow.
Recycling really is a major issue for this county borough – I will come back to this item again.
People are telling me that insufficient publicity has been been given to the change. I intend then to highlight it in my BCBC council election address in readiness for the May 4 election.
Luncheon Club: This is held every Tuesday and Thursday at Cornelly Community Centre, from 12.15pm for 12.30pm. Cost is just £4.50 for three courses plus tea or coffee and biscuits.
