DUNCAN PUTTER

-

WITH just a hint of spring in the air last week, the thoughts of local golfers will soon turn to the Duncan Putter and the Southerndown club.

Southerndown last week released the names of the 66 players that will be teeing it up on April 8.

Last year, Southerndown member Kyle Harman, who had only switched from Radyr a few weeks earlier, swept to victory.

He will again form the main club challenge, but seven others are in the field – Nathan Chilcott, Owen Greenow, Jake Hapgood, Kieron Harman, Llewellyn Matthews, Jaco Van der Merwe and Harry Watkins.

It will form a first Duncan Putter tournament for talented 16-yearold Watkins.

Other players of interest are dual Southerndown and St Mellons member Matthew Harris together with Oliver Brown (Vale Resort).

Strong Welsh challenges are also expected to come from Welsh internationals Lee Jones (Conwy), and former Duncan Putter winner Joshua Davies (Celtic Manor).

Meanwhile, to make the event a continued success, the club require the backing of members to make it run like clockwork.

This year is no exception, and Southerndown are asking members to give two hours of their time.

With a field of 66 competitors to get around the golf course twice in limited daylight hours, top marshal Ted Parker is once more gunning for support.

Anyone interested can contact him on 648624 or via email at e.parker@ pdcco.co.uk ings to Roy Denton and Ian Taylor, respectively.

With a net 70, however, vice captain Hugh Williams claimed the outright victory.
