THE opening Hanner Ffordd event was won by Dr GW Phillips on the back of a score of 37 Stableford points.

He finished a point in front of Eifion Davies while G Stephens was a further point back.

Kenneth Davies carded a birdie on the ninth hole on a 34-point card, and on the same mark were Ron Meadows (four pars), Dr Michael Ruttley, Viv Sheppard (birdie on hole four and five pars) and C E Morris.

The only two of the day belonged to B Dudley, who holed out for birdie on the 10th green.
