ABER VALLEY ............... 3 CORNELLY UNITED ..... 3

JOE Jones gave Cornelly the ideal farewell present in knocking in a late equaliser against high-flying Aber Valley at Abertridwr Park in Caerphilly, writes Tony Poole.

Ahead of the former Penybont star flying to the USA to take up a coaching position, he drilled home an injury-time free kick.

It was no more that the Meadow Street boys deserved, as they controlled the game for long periods, and seemed destined to return home with all three points when leading 2-0.

On a gluepot of an Abertridwr Park pitch, Joe Jones gave the Meadow Street boys an 18th-minute lead from a free kick.

Though they went on to dominate the half, the goal separated the sides during the break.

They went on to double the lead when former Penybont star Mark Evans got his first goal for the club since signing from Llantwit Major back in January.

But Aber then got their act together and during the heart of the game they scored three unanswered goals to lead 3-2.

They came from Dean Wood (56 mins), Tommy Hawkins (68) and Nathan Radzimierski (79).

And with the game drifting towards an Aber win, a 90th-minute free kick proved salvation time for the Meadow Street boys.

Joe Jones stepped up to the plate, driving the ball past the goalie to earn Cornelly a point on his swansong appearance.

Not for a first time this season, the outstanding Cornelly performances came from their main engine room men in the form of Penybont star- let Rhys Alden and Dann Jones.

A sixth draw of the season left Cornelly in 12th spot, and they have five remaining matches – four at home.

This Saturday they host Dynamo Aber ahead of Tonyrefail, Cwmbach Royal Stars and FC Cwmaman.

The lone trip is to Clwb Cymric, who needed two penalties earlier in the month to salvage a 2-2 Meadow Street draw.
