ONE of the most prolific scorers on the local football scene has departed the Nathaniel Cars Welsh League circuit, writes Tony Poole. Last week, Robbie Walters headed out of Caerau and stepped into the Celtic Tyres Bridgend League with FC Maesteg.

It brought the curtain down on a remarkable 200-goal career for the 32-year-old hitman, who rose to fame with Maesteg Park back in 2004.

During three seasons at Tudor Park in the top flight, the prince of strikers collected a remarkable 81 goals.

His next port of call on the Bridgend scene took him to Bryntirion Athletic, and during the 2007/08 campaign he registered his most profitable haul. Walters bagged 49 goals during just one season at Bryntirion Park, and he then went on to play for many other clubs before returning to the Bridgend beat in 2012/13.

That season he scored 25 times for Caerau and when Bridgend Town and Bryntirion Athletic merged in 2013 to become Penybont, Walters signed for the new Bridgend super club.

His Bont career produced 26 goals and in 2014/15 he headed back to Caerau.

In two seasons, 18 goals were scored, and this time around he got just got one goal for the Riverboaters.

However, the goal in a 3-2 defeat at Trefelin Boys Club in Division Three back on December 3 proved significant, as it was the 200th on the Welsh League local scene.

Meanwhile, Ellis Darks, son of Caerau chief Gareth, was left Caerau, and joined Port Talbot League club Gwynfi United in order to get more game time.
