Table Top Sales: These will be held at Coytrahen Community Centre on the first Saturday of every month from 8am-12noon.

Smyrna Chapel, Pen-Y- Fai: Sundays from 10.30am12noon for children aged four and over with stories, singing and fun with arts and craft work. The Sunday Communion service is at 6pm. Contact Mr Peter David on 01656 659 856. School was the venue for a fundraisin­g concert in support of the Urdd National Eisteddfod 2017. The concert was a resounding success with Bridgend Male Choir providing the backdrop for pupils from Bryntirion Comprehens­ive School and three local primary schools. The children from the three primary schools, Bro Ogwr, Trelales and Maes yr Haul, were well rehearsed by their respective teachers and thrilled the packed hall with their individual offerings of both traditiona­l and newer compositio­ns. Also performing were Bridgend Athletic’s Brass Trio of Dan Stoodley, Iolo John and Lewis Kerrigan.

Bridgend Communitie­s First: Meet Bridgend Communitie­s First’s team over a cuppa. Bridgend Communitie­s First Free coffee mornings will take place at the Zone, Dunraven Place on Monday April 24 from 10am-12noon.

Local History Fair: Glamorgan Family History Society and other local history societies hold a History Fair on Saturday, June 24, from 10am3pm, at the Aberkenfig Resource Centre (ARC) for family history, Len Evans Centre, Heol Persondy, Aberkenfig.

Tabernacl Music Society: The group hold their spring concert – A Celebratio­n of Welsh Music on Sunday, April 9, at 7pm at Tabernacl Chapel, Derwen Road.

Bridgend Male Choir: On June 17 the choir will be performing at Harrow School’s Speech Hall.

Bridge MPS / The Zone: The centre – at 46-48 Dunraven Place – is open from 10am-12noon on Wednesdays for people to receive food items at on charge.

A cooking course is held on Tuesdays from 11am1pm; Knit and Natter group meet from 10am-12 noon; and Arts and Crafts for toddlers meet from 1pm-3pm. The Cuppa and a Chat group meet Fridays, from 10am-12noon.

Also on Friday mornings Men’s Mental Health group meet from 10am12noon.

Lions Book Fair: The next Lions Club of Bridgend Annual Charity Book Fair will take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday April 7, 8 and 9 at Westward Community Centre Cefn Glas, with the largest Charity Book Fair in South Wales. Photograph­y Exhibition: Local butcher Tim Wood is presenting an exhibition, entitled Landscapes, Wood to Coast at the Grand Pavilion Porthcawl. The exhibition runs until May 21 and is free.

Bridgend Local & District History Society: The group now meet at Carnigie House (former Library) Wyndham Street.

The last meeting of the season is on Wednesday, April 12, at 7pm when the Annual General Meeting will take place (don’t let this put you off) which will be followed by members’ ‘Ten Minutes of Fame’.

Light refreshmen­ts will follow the meeting.

The President of Bridgend Local and District History Society would like to thank all who have supported them for a few months this year in their new venue and many thanks to Bridgend Town Council at Carnegie House, Wyndham Street.

We will be back on the second Wednesday of September, more to follow.

The Ian Thomas Memorial Sevens was establishe­d to commemorat­e the life of Ian, who tragically passed away at a young age. During his time as a teacher at Cefn School, Ian reintroduc­ed rugby and endeared himself to the whole school community. The Sevens Tournament takes places every year in memory of Ian’s achievemen­ts and is a central part of the school’s life.

This year the trophy’s will be sponsored by Cefn Cribwr Athletic Club. Please come along and support this wonderful event.
