Laleston Gardening Club: At the committee meeting held on Friday, March 17 members were delighted to hear that their recent second applicatio­n for grant aid from the Community Benefit Fund had been successful.

The club will use the money to relay two levels of crazy paved patio area at the front of Cliff Cottage, including the constructi­on of two concrete wheelchair access ramps. The balance of the cost will be paid from Gardening Club funds.

Plans are continuing to be made for the 5th Annual Plant Sale and Coffee Morning to be held on Saturday, May 6.

Sian James and Dennis Roberts are organising the cultivatio­n of a whole range of flower and vegetable plants from seed and plugs and a number of members’ glass houses are being used in various locations.

It is a huge commitment in time and effort by Sian and Dennis and it is only fair to mention the support of their better halves Alan and Judith respective­ly.

Members should be aware that the show schedules for the Annual Show in September are now available and can be collected from the club.

The club’s not-for-proft shop (The Cabin) is open between 10am-12noon on Thursdays and Saturdays.

Lions Book Sale: Dates are Friday April 7; Saturday April 8; and Sunday April 9. Donations can be delivered to Westward Community Centre, Cefn Glas (opp shops) any Sunday between 10.30am and 11.30am.

Laleston WI: The WI’s next meeting will be held on the April 6 at 7.15 pm at the Blandy Hall, Laleston when the guest speaker, Malcolm Cowpar will talk on the History of WWII and Bridgend People. The competitio­n will be a Bridgend WWII photograph.

Thursday evening Lent Course at St Mary’s Church, Nolton, with Bishop David: Upping our Game. A five part Lent course built around the five marks of evangelism in the modern Church.

Each session begins at 7.30pm in St Mary’s and includes a 20 minute talk from Bishop David plus refreshmen­ts and a 20 minute Q&A session.

Smyrna Chapel Services: A traditiona­l Sunday School Service in Smyrna Chapel Penyfai always starts at 10.30am. Evening services take place in Smyrna Chapel starting at 6pm.

Coffee morning is every Tuesday in the Smyrna Chapel Vestry from 10am12noon, also stalls of produce are on offer.

Bible studies are on Thursdays at 7.15pm and are led by Marlyn James and Dorothy Evans.

Coed Penyfai Trust: The Penyfai Woodland Trust are holding a Spring Evening Dance on Saturday, March 25, from 7.30pm-late.

Live music comes from by Mid Life Crisis. All welcome to bring your own food and drinks.

Tickets are on sale in the Selection Box shop in Penyfai and cost £5.
