Speing Craft Fayre: The Friends of Maesteg Welfare Park Spring Craft Fayre will take place on Saturday April 1, from 10am-2pm in the Pavilion in Maesteg Welfare Park. Proceeds will go to the Inclusive Playground Project.

History Society: Maesteg Historical Society meet on the first Tuesday of the month at St David’s Church (opposite Asda) at 7pm. They meet next week on April 4 and the speaker, Lilian Charles has an interestin­g topic – The Emperor Qin. This is the las t meeting of the season.

Friday, March 31 – Resistance to Murder, a hilarious murder mystery play at the Workingmen’s Club, Maesteg, 7pm. Tickets £8 including a buffet.

Thursday, April 6 – A Fashion Show is being held at Maesteg Comprehens­ive School at 6.30pm, but the event starts at 5.30pm providing an opportunit­y to browsing at the stalls.

Sunday, April 9 – Easter Egg Hunt at Maesteg Welfare Park, from 11am.

Cyngerdd/Concert: Maesteg Children’s Choir together with Ysgol Cynwyd Sant present an evening of joyful music on Wednesday, April 5, at St David’s Church (opposite Asda) at 7pm. Joining them will be soloists from YGG Langynwyd.

Tickets cost £4 from the choirs (or pay at the door) and all proceeds go towards the eisteddfod.

Côr Merched: Will be holding their annual concert at Maesteg Town Hall next week on Friday April 7. Tickets £8.

Up Pompeii: From Wed June 14 to Friday June 16, Llynfi Valley Amateur Dramatic Society present comedy Up Pompeii. Tickets cost £6 in advance (£7 on the door) from the Town Hall and library on 01656 815 995.

Choir News: The following choirs are in the area if you would like to join:

Côr Meibion Maesteg a’r cylch/Maesteg Male Voice Choir rehearse at the Celtic club on Thursdays and every other Tuesday starting at 7pm-9pm on Thursday with a 15-minute break and 7pm-8.30pm Tuesdays with no break.

Côr Merched Cwm Llynfi, the Llynfi Valley Ladies Choir rehearse at the Catholic Church – St Mary’s and St Patrick’s – on Wednesdays 7pm-9pm.

The Gleemen – Maesteg Gleemen Male Voice Choir rehearse at the British Legion Club, from 7pm on Mondays and Thursdays.

Harmony Ladies Choir, rehearse Mondays 7.30pm-9pm at Nanty Rugby Club.

Maesteg Children’s Choir: Meet every Saturday in the Crypt of St Michael’s Church from 10am-12 noon and pay £2 a week.

Curtain Up Youth Theatre: Meets every Tuesday at Maesteg Town Hall from 4.15pm for primary school age children and 6pm for those of comprehens­ive school age up to 18. Fee is £6 with an offer of £10 for 2 in the family.

3rd Maesteg Scout Group: Meet at the building in Llwydarth Road. Beavers (6-8 year-olds) meet Monday 5pm-6.30pm; Cubs (8-10) meet Thursday 5.30pm-7pm and Scouts (10-14) meet Thursday 7.15pm-9.15pm, all at £3 each week.

The 631 (Maesteg) Squadron: meet on Tuesday and Friday evenings at their Upper Street HQ and welcome boys and girls aged 13 and over.

Courthouse: The Courthouse is in Station Street, Maesteg, and was started as a place for 16-25-year-olds to go, where they could just sit around and chat, or do various activities on offer. Now the age-limit has been lowered.

It’s open every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 5.30pm-7.30pm. Plus there are dance groups of various styles – ballet with Miss Sian, based in Church Street, Maesteg (near the bus station); plus Contagious; and Funk Force.

MHM Wales: Wellbeing Drop-in. Come and join us and increase your positive emotional wellbeing. Every Thursday 12.30pm4.30pm at Central Ecumenical Church, Church Street, Maesteg.

Then there’s the Over 50s Coffee Group held every Wednesday 2pm4pm at Lloyds Café, Maesteg.

Special Families: This is a family support group in Maesteg for families that have children with disabiliti­es.There is now a youth club for special needs children and their siblings at the Court House.

It is on a Thursday, from 3.30pm-5.30pm for children under 10 years of age. From 5.30pm7.30pm for children aged over 10 years of age.

Special Families Maesteg offer weekly coffee mornings at the Court House during term time, Wednesday from 10am-12noon.

Tir Iarll WI: The next meeting is on Tuesday April 4 at 7pm at Llangynwyd Primary School and the speakers are Ian Roach and Tyrone Peach on Fraud Awareness.

At the February meeting members enjoyed a talk by Alan Armstrong from Cowbridge on Love Spoons. Alan demonstrat­ed the art of carving the spoon and how different patterns were achieved.

Members were invited to try under Alan’s strict supervisio­n.

The March meeting was a musical evening with Anthony Bwye. Anthony sang both in Welsh and English and members were asked to sing along. It was a belated celebratio­n for St David’s Day and enjoyed by all.

The ramblers enjoyed a trip to the Mansion House in Cardiff for afternoon tea in February and following that were invited to the Civic Service at St John’s church on The Hayes in Cardiff.

Members of the craft group joined with members of Coity WI for a Ribbon Embroidery workshop. At the March meeting the members brought samples along for all to see of this intricate embroidery.

The darts team reported on the day that they had spent at Llanharry Workingmen’s Club for the darts tournament. Tir Iarll won two games in their group.

Llan Hall: Current activities at the hall include:

Sandville: There is a door to door bus service, taking people from the Llynfi valley to the lovely Sandville Court, a charitable organisati­on, where they can have therapy – reflexolog­y, relaxation, hydrothera­py and much more.

The bus leaves every Thursday morning, providing it’s fairly full – there’s a small fee for the bus and all the therapies are donations only.
