AFTER the break for the rugby, there were just two games played on March 17.

The Nanty inn beat the Colliers 7-2 and Blaengarw Rugby beat the Blaen 6-3 thanks to a 180 from Will Struthers and a 140 checkout from Phil Rice. In the games last week, the leaders the Vetz increased their lead at the top when they gained a 6-3 win at the Colliers while the Pant came away from the Blaen with a 5-4 victory with the Blaen youngster Dan Gillett bagging a 155 checkout in an 18-dart leg. At the Nanty Inn, the visitors were Ogmore Rugby. The home side took all three pairs through Mark Lewis and John Hillman, Anthony Jones and Chris Hillman and Andrew Hillman and Nigel Bblowing. They then won four singles courtesy of Jones and the three Hillman boys with John hitting a 180. The Rugby won two games through Steve “Beany” Jones and Dai Gunter who hit a 15dart leg to make it a 7-2 win for the Inn.

At the Con, Nanty Rugby came home with a 5-4 win with pairs wins for Johnny Clayton and Wade Williams and Roy Nutt and John Collins with the two stalwarts Fai Davies and Brian Parry replying for the Con. The singles were then shared with Nutt, Clayton and Collins winning for the Rugby and Ken Swain, Gary Acreman and Steve Wright for the Con.

At the Social there was a titanic battle between second-placed Garw Rugby and third placed Social. The pairs went the way of the home boys through Chris Packman and Nick Winn and the two Johns, Pritchard and Picton with Phil Rice and Peter Jones replying for the rugby. The Social then won two singles through Packman and Winn, who nicked a 180, but for the Rugby, Jones, with a 180, Paul Williams with a 16-dart leg, Rice and Will Struthers all won their games to seal a 5-4 win for the Garw boys.

Next week it’s all up to the Nanty Inn for the Champion of Champions where Mike Huntley will be defending his crown.
