DIVISION THREE

-

PENRHIWCEIBER RANGERS ...................... 0 LLANTWIT MAJOR ...... 2

LLANTWIT Major cleared another major hurdle at The Glasbrook, and are in fine fettle going into key back-to-back battles with promotion rivals Caerau, writes Tony Poole.

With Ceiber having been relegation candidates in the autumn only to become promotion material in the spring, says it all for the most competitive of the three Welsh League divisions.

But they knew a win over the Windmillers was essential to have any chance of returning to Division Two – and blew it big time.

Once more the presence of towering centre-back Shaun Barney-Williams, and side kick Darren Robinson, overshadowed what limited challenge the Cynon Valley side was able to mount.

The Windmillers have changed track somewhat since Barney arrived from Bridgend super club Penybont last month.

With Jonny Butler able to serve long throws, Llantwit Major have cut their cloth and they are tailor made for Barney’s experienced and potent head.

Allied to him possessing the happy knack of being in the right place at the right time, you have a winning formula at this level.

The Windmillers wrapped things up during the first half on the strength of carbon copy corners from Rob Jones.

The opener in the 23rd minute saw Barney nod down for Gareth Davies – who netted on his club debut against Ceiber back in November – to once more make them wince.

Just 12 minutes later it was action replay time – Barney directing the ball to Gareth Davies for him to once more score.

But in the main the game was uneventful after that with Ceiber reduced to 10 men in the 80th minute for two yellow cards.

Rhys Llewellyn also turned in a standout showing at right back while schoolboy Sammy Snaith again ran his socks off up top.

During the second half, fox in the box Luke Cox saw a header clatter a post, as everything went to plan for Llantwit Major chief Karl Lewis ahead of Caerau at home this Saturday.
