GLAIS ........................... 14 PONTYCYMMER ........... 7

PONTYCYMER travelled to Birchgrove Road looking to complete a season’s double over Glais.

When the sides met last November, it was Ponty who stole the show with a 29-3 victory.

It was the Garw Val- ley outfit that started the stronger this time with No 8 Richard Harris high on the stats sheet during a scrappy opening quarter, with his appetite for work being highlighted by his tackle count and contribution around the pitch as he teamed up with his brother and flanker Andrew Harris to nullify the threat from the Glais back-row.

Next to the dynamicduo was Rhys Hosey. The lock relishes the physical side of things and threw himself into combat, carrying hard and roughing up the homeside whenever he had an opportunity.

While behind the scrum, Ponty’s jewel-inthe-crown was their boxoffice centre Ross Pearce who got his back line moving like a well-oiled machine.

It was the home side that made the most of the strong wind and broke the deadlock with two converted tries.

Now playing catch up rugby at 14-0, the Lawrence Park outfit began to up the tempo and soon powerhouse prop Ricky Griffiths crashed over for a fantastic long range solo try. Pivot Tom Davies added the extras and at halftime it was 14-7.

After lots of huff and puff in the second half, neither side could break down each other’s defence and at the end of 80 minutes, it remained 14-7 to the home side with the Green and Ambers picking up a losing bonus point.

On Saturday, Pontycymer welcome Taibach to Lawrence Park, ko 2.30pm.
