SEVEN other local clubs have followed Bridgend Town in this summer offering children All Stars Cricket, writes Tony Poole.

The other clubs who are reaching for the stars of the future are Cowbridge, Great Western Railway, Maesteg Celtic, Llantwit Major Cavaliers, Porthcawl Town, Tondu and Vale.

Earlier in the month, the Glamorgan Gazette broke the news that Brid- gend Town were offering All Stars Cricket.

However, when the England and Wales Cricket Board last week officially launched the initiative – aimed at boys and girls between the ages of five and eight – these seven clubs were also listed.

For a fee of £40, each child will receive eight weekly sessions of an hour at their chosen club along with cricket pack of goodies.

The kit comprises bat, ball, backpack, water bot- tle along with a personalised shirt and cap.

These items can then be retained to remind the child of their love of cricket.

All Stars Cricket has been introduced to give children a first taste of the game, and it’s designed to be a fun and active way for them to develop skills.

The dates and times of the eight local All Stars Clubs are as follows:

Bridgend Town, Cowbridge, Great Western Railway ( now based at Southerndown CC), Llantwit Major Cavaliers, Porthcawl Town and Tondu all launch Friday evening sessions on May 19, and will run lessons up to July 7.

Maesteg Celtic also have an All Stars group on Fridays from June 2 – July 21 while Vale have opted for Tuesday evenings from May 23 – July 17.
