Aberkenfig Allotments: The Aberkenfig Allotment Associatio­n shop is situated in the allotments at Sandfields Road Aberkenfig.

It’s open every Sunday from 10am-noon with a variety of products at good prices on sale.

If you fancy growing your own vegetables then the waiting list for an allotment is now very short.

Smyrna Penyfai: The Sunday school would like to invite the children of the surroundin­g area who are aged four and over to join them on Sunday morning, from 10.30am -noon for stories, singing and fun with arts and craft work.

The Good Friday service is held at 3pm and is led by Smyrna’s Minister Rev Alwyn Evans. All are very welcome to the service.

The Easter Sunday Communion service is held at 6pm and is also led by Rev Alwyn Evans. All are very welcome to the service and to join for refreshmen­ts in the vestry afterwards.

Coffee morning is held on Tuesday, from 10am-noon with good company and a raffle is also held in aid of local charities.

Bible study takes place on Thursday evening at 7.15pm and is led in turn by Mrs Marlyn James and Miss Dorithy Evans.

Congratula­tions: To Bridgend Town Council administra­tion assistant Sharlene on the safe arrival of her baby daughter Rosie Amelia.

Rosie arrived on Mother’s Day – March 25 – and weighed 8lb 6oz and is a very welcome sister to her two brothers.

Birthday: Happy slightly belated birthday wishes to Bridgend born twins Connie and Kay (nee Morgan) who celebrated their special 90th birthday recently. A special party took place to celebrate this very special occasion.

Bridgend Town Council Clerk: Nigel Kinsey has retired. Nigel joined Bridgend Town Council back in 2012, when he first started, his role was quite different to what it is today. He worked on his own in a small office in Glanorgwr and had just one member of outdoor staff. There has been obviously been a great deal of change during Nigel’s time as town clerk.

Nigel has overseen the relocation to Carnegie House, managed the ever growing activities and projects of the Town Council and built a team of eight members of staff.

Bridgend Town Mayor, Coun Rob Morgan said on behalf of the Town Council: “I would like to take this opportunit­y to thank Nigel for all his hard work during this time, it is very much appreciate­d.

“A big thank you to Nigel for everything he has done and I am sure you will all join me in wishing him the very best for a long and happy retirement.”

Leanne Edwards, assistant town clerk will now take over as the new Bridgend town clerk.

Sympathy: Much sympathy to the family and friends of the Poppy Appeal fundraiser Mr Andrew Reekie.

As we all know Andy raised thousands of pounds to support exservicem­en.

Also, sympathy to the family and friends of Councillor David Sage, former deputy leader of Bridgend County Borough Council who passed away recently after a long illness.

Lent Lunches: At Nolton Church Hall continue on Friday, between 11.30am and 1pm. Everyone is welcome to enjoy good food, good company , and of course all in good cause. A bowl of soup, fresh roll and cheese followed by a cup of tea or coffee all this foram odest £2.50.

Spring Crafts: Spring Inspired Crafts this Easter. Come along to Carnegie House, (former Library) Wyndham Street on Tuesday and Wednesday April 11 and 12 between 11am and 2pm.

The theme will be Tuesday Easter Hat making and Wednesday General Crafts. Entry is Free.

Last Day: The Rev Jayne Shaw’s last day as a member of the clergy at Nolton Church will be on Easter Sunday, April 16. In the evening there will be a special service at Nolton at 6pm, followed by a bring and share party in Nolton Hall.

St John’s House: The committee of St John’s House (Hospice) Newcastle Hill have had 20 unique Ewenny Pottery hand made beakers made with the St John’s Cross carved onto the front.

These cost £12 and can be bought from the chairman of St John’s House Trust, Ken Hinton 01656 648783.

St John’s House on Newcastle Hill will be open to the public on the last Saturday of the month April 28 between 11am and 3pm. The beakers will be on sale here. All are very welcome, admission is free.

Easter Family Crafts: Easter chicks and Easter egg collecting bags. Have great fun with your family making Easter chicks from egg boxes and Easter egg collecting bags. This will take place at Brackla Community Centre on Thursday April 13, from 1.30pm3.30pm. The same family craft will take place at Carnegie House, (the old library) Wyndham Street on Friday April 21, from 10am-12 noon. Both events are free to all those living in Bridgend Communitie­s First postcode area.

At the Vine Christian Centre, Australian Terrace (Off Cemetery Road) family fun will continue with making your own bird box for the spring on Thursday, April 20 from 1.30pm-3.30pm. Bridgend Carers Community Café: Held Wednesdays from 12.30pm- 3pm. On April 12 there will be a demonstrat­ion on Willow Weaving with Out to Learn Willow. You are most welcome to attend.

Bridgend United Church: Maundy Thursday service on April 13. All are welcome.

The children wore aprons and hair nets, which they thoroughly enjoyed.

Everyone had the opportunit­y to taste different types of bread, such as milk bread, whole meal and fruit bread.

The children made healthy sandwiches by selecting different types of fillings.

Everyone had a fabulous morning.

Mynydd Cynffig Primary School: Bridgend County Council’s Cabinet determined to abandon the proposal to relocate Mynydd Cynffig Primary School to the Cynffig Comprehens­ive School site.

The Cabinet Report about this has been published on the Bridgend County Borough Council website in Council and Democracy section.

Mr Davies, headteache­r, would like to thank all the parents and grandparen­ts who supported the Easter Bonnet Parade and Easter Egg Hunt across the Foundation Phase as well as those parents who helped at the Key Stage 2 Film Night.

Well done to Lois O’Gorman, Dewi Powis, Thomas Powis and Evie Richards who competed in the latest round of the Bridgend Schools Cross-Country League at Pencoed Comprehens­ive School. All four ran well and completed the course strongly. Congratula­tions to you all on your excellent performanc­es.

Good luck to the Year 5 Formula 1 in Schools team, King Cobra – consisting of Ioan Billins, Thomas Collier, Grace Evans and Daniel Thomas, who have been chosen to represent Mynydd Cynffig Primary at The Jaguar Primary School 3D Challenge at The Waterfront Museum, Swansea in May.

Special thanks to Mr Pedler and Mrs Powis for their hard work in supporting all Year 5 pupils this term in developing their literacy and numeracy skills through science and technology.

The Talbot Community Centre: Membership subscripti­ons of £5 are now due for this year.

Become a member and you will benefit from priority bookings for day trips, theatre visits and evening functions arranged at the Centre.

You will be able to access computer classes at a reduced fee and enjoy lunches at a discounted price.

You will also receive email notificati­on of forthcomin­g events. Several projects/ alteration­s were carried out last year and these were partly funded by members’ contributi­ons. During the coming year, it is hoped that more equipment will be purchased to encourage more groups and classes.
