Cwtch Cynffig: For 50 years Kenfig Hill has providedam eeting place for people with disabiliti­es and their carers and the Cwtch Cynffig project continues their good work every Thursday.

Activities include arts & crafts, chair based exercise, health and wellbeing sessions.

Morning sessions run from 10am-12.30pm and Afternoon sessions run from 1.30pm-4pm.

Each session costs £5 which include refreshmen­ts.

Lunch is also provided at an additional cost of £2.50.

Kenfig Hill and District Male Voice Choir: The Choir’s Annual Tribute to their Patrons will take place on Saturday, May 13, at The Grove Golf Club, 7pm.

Cynffig Cluster World Book Day Quiz: Five primary schools participat­ed in this event recently.

Each team had to answer 20 questions about a fiction book provided by the organisers at Pyle Library.

Both Mynydd Cynffig Primary and Pil Primary achieved 20 out of 20 meaning that a tie-break consisting of five more questions each took place.

Harry Mason and Daniel Thomas held their nerve and conferred expertly as a team to win the trophy for Mynydd Cynffig Primary School for the very first time in the competitio­n’s fouryear history.

The boys will now progress to the Bridgend Primary Schools finals which will take place in Maesteg in June along with Mia-Elise Lewis and Claudia Broom who represente­d Pil Primary and were within a point of the winning school. Congratula­tions to both teams.

Festival Week: Preparatio­ns are already taking place for this wonderful annual event in the Kenfig Hill and Pyle Community. This year the theme is Flower Power.

Festival week commences on Saturday June 24 until Sunday July 2 with Fun Day on Saturday July 1.

Memory Lane Café: Are you very forgetful? Are you looking after someone who is very forgetful or has been diagnosed with dementia?

Retirement Wishes: I discovered this week that Dr Kim Mohajer has recently retired.

For me, he was the doctor that the doctors themselves turned to when their own children were ill and I will always be grateful for his support during the most awful two weeks 24 years ago.

I wish him a happy and peaceful retirement and thank him for everything he has done for our community over the last 30 years. followed by lunch.

Smyrna Chapel Services: A Traditiona­l Sunday School Service in Smyrna Chapel Penyfai always starts at 10.30am, the evening services will take place in Smyrna Chapel starting at 6pm, coffee morning every Tuesday in the Smyrna chapel vestry from 10am to 12noon, also stalls of produce are on offer, bible studies take place on Thursdays at 7.15pm and led by Marlyn James and Dorothy Evans, newcomers to the village of Penyfai are always made very welcome

Penyfai WI News: The next meeting of the Penyfai WI will be early April 12, because of the Easter Holidays, when it will be the AGM.

Penyfai Woodland Trust: Trustees and members of the Penyfai Woodland Trust, want to thank everyone for coming to their fundraisin­g Spring Dance in the Scout Hall, and making the night a great success, a special thank you goes to Mid Life Crisis for providing the music.

Penyfai in Bloom: A visitor to Penyfai have reported to me on how lovely Penyfai looked with all the daffodils in bloom on the Village Green Prothero Avenue, Penyfai Common and Court Coleman they also said they thought Penyfai is a very nice place to live, with still having open countrysid­e to enjoy.

Play and Community: Family’s of newcomers to the village of Penyfai with children from two years to four years and are looking to join a play group, for many years the Play and Community play group has been held in the scout hall on Court Coleman Road, Penyfai.

The Playgroup is open from 9.15am-3pm from Monday to Friday during term time.

Dogs are banned from Dunraven Bay from May 1 to September 30, but are welcome all year round at Ogmore-bySea.
