Easter Celebratio­ns: Garw Valley Links Community Church hold a free tea and singa-long on Wednesday, April 14, at 4pm in His Place (next door to the Spar in Oxford St, Pontycymer).

Then, on Easter Sunday, April 16 at 11am again at His Place and later the same day at Blaengarw Community Centre for an Easter Tea at 5.15pm followed by Easter Service at 6pm.

Strictly Cinema: April’s film documentar­y offering from the Strictly Cinema team will be Dark Horse which tells the remarkable true story of the dream racehorse bought by the residents of a Welsh valley which went on to achieve amazing results.

As usual the film will be shown at Blaengarw Workmen’s Hall on Tuesday, April 25, at 11am. Teas, coffees and light refreshmen­ts will also be available.

The last film show was almost a sell out and with doors opening at 10.30am you are advised to arrive early.

Charity Prize Draw – Pontycymer RFC: Tickets are now on sale for a charity prize draw which take place on Saturday, April 22, following the big show-down between Pontycymer Veterans v Blaengarw Veterans.

All proceeds will go to Prostate Cancer Cymru and tickets cost £1 each from club members, as well as at the club on on the day of the game.

It is hoped the Valley Ravens mini rugby team will be playing a curtain raiser before the main event.

There are some fantastic prizes including two tickets for a Wales autumn internatio­nal, a Gareth Thomas signed autobiogra­phy, offical British Lions rucksack and scarf set, plus various other great prizes.

If you wish to donate a prize for the draw please take it to Pontycymme­r RFC.

Pontycymer RFC: On Saturday, April 15, Pontycymer welcome Swansea Uplands RFC to Lawrence Park for a Division Three West Central match. Kick-off is at 2.30pm.

Garw SGBC: On Wednesday, April 19, Garw SGBC will travel to The White Tips Stadium in Treforest, where they will play in the semifinal of the WJ Owen Open Cup competitio­n.

The Garw Valley side will face Division One leaders Cardiff Draconians. Kick-off is at 7pm. Good luck to all involved.

The Tabernacle: Following the recent sudden death of Mr John Davies, organist at the Tab for many years members of the congregati­on are concerned that, should the chapel close, there will be no place for weddings, funerals and Armistice services.

They are therefore appealing to the people of the Garw Valley to show their support by coming along to their regular Sunday evening service at 6pm.

Pontycymer Over 35s Tour: On the weekend of May 20-21, Pontycymer Over 35s will be returning to Newbury, for this season’s end of season tour.

The squad will be based in Newbury, but will be playing Hungerford Veterans at Triangle Field on Saturday, May 20.

However, before Pontycymer cross Offa’s Dyke in May, their over-35s play a charity game against valley neighbours Blaengarw over-35s at Lawrence Park on April 22, kick-off is at 2.30pm.

Community Furniture Aid: On Good Friday, April 14, the charity will be hosting a Table Top Sale at the Blaengarw Rugby Club in Victoria Street, Pontycymer.

Entry will be free and there will be refreshmen­ts and cakes as well as a bric-a-brac stall, crafts, toys and more.
