CARDIFF CORRIES ...... 0 PENCOED ATHLETIC ... 3

PENCOED Athletic made it four league wins on the trot with a convincing midweek win over Cardiff Corries at the Riverside in Radyr, writes Tony Poole.

As recently as 2012, Corries were a Welsh League Division One club but the downward spiral of this famous old capital city side continues unabated.

The Felindre Road boys welcomed back captain Evan Price, who slotted in well alongside colourful Sam Brown.

But if Jack Delve’s kit man Deri Lloyd had packed his shooting boots then Pencoed would have won even more comfortably.

After jack in the box Delve missed three sitters, the former Penybont hitman accepted the most difficult chance, toe-poking home a Richie Lewis ball to give them a 20thminute lead.

And just a few minutes later, a 25-metre net buster from Richie Lewis moved him on to the fivegoal mark for the season.

Though Corries did clip the woodwork, goalkeeper Matty Roberts diverting the shot on to the cross bar, Pencoed were 2-0 up at the break

And the second half was only 10 minutes old when they extended the lead through architect Owen.

Adam Brimble, who possesses the fastest pair of pins on the Alliance circuit, cushioned his pass in the vicinity of the box.

And having found space, nimble Brimble made it four goals in two games much to the delight of the travelling Brimblettes.

With the game won, Pencoed chief Mark Pow- ell turned to fresh legs via Marc Turner, Keegan Alexander and Jordan Burrows.

Not long after entering the fray, young Burrows caused the cross bar to vibrate while Turner and nimble Brimble should have increased the winning margin.

“Another good performance and on an excellent playing surface, the boys showed some fine touches,” was the verdict of Pencoed boss Mark Powell. penalty with the score on 1-0.

Though Jack Page pulled a goal back in the 36th minute, Tom Walters and Rhys Dyke then just failed to further reduce arrears.

It was 3-1 at the turnaround and though Caerau lost Dyke to a head injury, a 19th goal of the season from top scorer Tom Walters in the 67th minute gave the Riverboaters renewed hope.

And incredibly though Stars then went down to 10 men after an awful two-footed challenge, they scored two breakaway goals.

This set up a precious three-point return in another battle to dodge the relegation trapdoor into the Gwent County League.

Meanwhile, Caerau host Tredegar Town on Saturday, and will look to turn the tables on Treowen Stars at the Riverboat a week tonight (Wednesday).
