It’s two times five for Bont
NATHANIEL CARS WELSH LEAGUE DIVISION ONE PENYBONT .................... 5 CAERAU ELY ................. 2
FOR a second time in three days, Penybont garnished a comfortable victory with five goals, writes Tony Poole.
Having in midweek triumphed 5-1 at Cwmbran Celtic, it was the turn on Saturday of Caerau Ely to feel the Bont heat.
And the scoring limelight fell on recent Aberystwyth Town acquisition Kostya Georgievsky, who knocked in a hat-trick.
The game was just 10 minutes old when a beefy Kane Owen cross picked out regular target Rhys Griffiths – and the Bont supremo duly hit another bullseye.
A ninth goal of the season from Griffiths was closely followed by Ely goalie Alex Smith dealing with a Josef Hopkins header.
In the 24th minute, Georgievsky dinked Smith to make it 2-0 and a quarter of an hour later, he shot just wide.
But in the approach to half time, a hoof out of defence by Rhys Griffiths led to Owain Warlow netting from outside the box.
The sides changed ends on 3-0, and media mogul Tony Griffiths was still entertaining guests when the fourth goal went in.
It was Georgievsky who hit the target again, and Warlow then shot over the top from a decent position.
However, they received a 69th-minute setback, goalie Rhys Wilson conceding a penalty that Cur- tis Hutson tucked away.
But three minutes later the fab four-goal buffer was restored – Warlow setting up a Georgievsky hat-trick strike.
It remained 5-1 until close to time when the Bridgend super club were reduced to 10 men – Wilson giving away another penalty, and a second yellow card led to him departing the scene.
Deputy goalie Ioan Emanuel failed to keep out another Hutson penalty, but Bont were already on the way to a 15th league win of the season that consolidated third spot.
Penybont are without a game this weekend, and resume a week tonight (Wednesday) at Monmouth Town - their final home game is Saturday week against title-chasing Gwent side Goytre.
