CAERAU ......................... 1 LLANTWIT MAJOR ...... 3

THIS might prove one defeat too many for Caerau in their promotion quest, writes Tony Poole.

Four days after losing 2-1 at Llantwit Major, the Riverboaters simply knew they had to down the Windmillers to remain in touching distance of the two promotion spots.

But for a second successive season, it’s looking increasingly likely as if Caerau will once more come up just short.

In what turned into a contest that bore a re- markable resemblance to the Windmill Lane meeting, Caerau once more had the lead early on from Chay Davies.

From a Dale Price corner on 10 minutes, a good hold up led to Davies getting an 18th goal of the season.

The Riverboaters then failed to capitalise on a good opening, and had a penalty shout refused after Chay Davies was clattered.

Caerau led by a goal to nil at the break, but it was never going to be enough going up the Riverboat slope.

The Windmillers had wind in their sails going downhill, and soon squared matters.

Luke Cox opened up the defence and a one-two with Rob Jones gave Jonny Fletcher a first goal of the campaign.

And Llantwit had the lead when a superb Rob Jones free kick from 30 metres sailed past Matt Rees, who then saved well to keep Caerau in the hunt.

And the Windmillers put a tin hat on a Caerau double in four days when a Jake Roberts flick was deflected into the path of unmarked Rob Jones at the far post – and he collected a 13th goal of the season.

While Caerau were bitterly disappointed with the outcome, they freely admitted the Windmillers were deserved victors of both encounters.
