RESOLVEN ................... 31 PENCOED ...................... 9

PENCOED looked to have opened the scoring after 15 minutes, centre Lloyd Bargery splitting the home midfield to race clear at the posts, unfortunately, the match official ruling out his effort, the short pass in midfield adjudged forward.

Home outside half Owen Evans then opened the scoring with a penalty.

The vagaries of a rugby ball then denied Pencoed a score, full back Ryan Russell racing onto a chip ahead from Rhys Clarke only to be denied by a cruel bounce.

Clarke levelled affairs with a penalty and soon afterwards was again in the picture intercepting in his own 22 to halt a home attack.

With 30-plus minutes on the clock, Resolven opened the try scoring, hooker Niki Reed getting the touchdown from a driven lineout.

Resolven then got a second through their driving maul, flanker Ross Sandry breaking off to run some 30 metres to score, Evans converted and the home side led 17-3.

Pencoed stayed in touch with Clarke slotting two penalties.

Resolven held a 17-9 lead but with a little more luck Pencoed could have led.

The home side got prime position early in the second half at a scrum but the Pencoed front row were solid at the set piece metres out and Clarke cleared his lines. Tight head prop Jack Jones gained the touchdown full back Bradley Lewis adding the conversion. Home No 8 Anthony Lee then got the bonus-point try, Lewis converted.
