NATHANIEL CARS WELSH LEAGUE CUP
BRIDGEND STREET ..... 5 HAVERFORDWEST COUNTY ......................... 5 (Bridgend Street won 4-2 on pens)
SOCIAL media has dubbed this semi-final at the Kymco Stadium as the most exciting in cup history, writes Tony Poole.
Not only do Bridgend Street ply their trade two tiers below Haverfordwest County, but they also played with a man less from early in the second period.
The capital city side led on the back of a Nicky Dawson strike at the break, but early in the second half, they had Rhys Foley-Odare and Paul Fowler sent off and the Bluebirds Matt Broome.
However, three Haverfordwest goals – Steffan Williams struck twice and Ashley Bevan once - looked to have punched their ticket through to the final.
But two incredible goals in the last two minutes from Davison and Ross Dingle made it 3-3 - and extra-time was called on.
Jeff White nudged the Cardiff side in front in the 100th minute only for Steffan Davies to even things up.
It was 4-4 at the break, and once more Haverfordwest looked on course for victory when Williams completed a hat-trick.
But in the 119th minute the nine men were awarded a penalty that Davison converted to make it 5-5 at full time.
Goalkeeper Nicholas King then saved two Haverfordwest penalties, and a winning strike from Richie Noyes set up a 4-2 success amidst wild scenes of Bridgend Street celebrations.
League secretary Kenneth Tucker afterwards acknowledged Penybont for being superb hosts.
Bridgend Street will meet Llanelli Town in the final after the Sospans came on the boil, ousting first-division opponents Caerau Ely to the tune of 5-1 at Afan Lido.
