TONDU ......................... 32 CWMGORS ..................... 0

THE champagne was on ice and the Tondu side were given a guard of honour by the junior section as they ran out and everyone seemed ready for a Pandy Park party, writes Mike Sully.

But Cwmgors it seems had not read the script and frustrated the champions elect for almost the entire first half.

Also, Tondu were unable to get that final pass away which cost them two almost certain tries.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 36th minute when hooker Jake Lewis sold a cheeky dummy to score the game’s first try and that made it 5-0 at half-time.

Tondu opened the second half with much more composure, scoring a great try from centre Matthew Davies within minutes of the restart, Josh Tatchell added the conversion. Tatchell then slotted a penalty before a pushover try saw veteran No 8 Nathan Strong get the touchdown.

Next came a magnificent handling move from the Tondu backs that led to full back Aled Jones scoring the bonus-point try. Another excellent move saw scrum half Gareth Lindenburn finish off the scoring with a fantastic try, except for Tatchell’s conversion.

Head coach Matthew Tatchell said: “Pleased for the boys we’ve had a tough couple of years but all the hard work they’ve put in has paid dividends with a well earned championship trophy.

“I’m immensely proud of each and everyone of them.”

Tondu now play Treorchy tonight (Wednesday) in the semi-finals of the Silver Ball at Virginia Park, Caerphilly kick-off 7.15pm before the short trip to Pencoed for their penultimate game on Saturday.
