Dog leads: A serious accident could have occurred when a person walking their dog on a lead which extends allowed the animal to run out into the middle of Parc Court Road. A recent incident of this nature happened when a dog ran from behind a parked vehicle because the owner did not exercise control over the lead. Fortunately the driver of an oncoming vehicle was driving at a speed which enabled him to stop, preventing anyone from being injured. Perhaps owners of dogs should consider walking animals alongside busy roads on a short controlled lead.

Wick Wanderers’ Walk Report: The forecast was for rain, rain and more rain, apologies came in thick and fast, but still three of us turned up to show we were made of tougher stuff than some would imagine.

We set off to park near King George’s field, near St Donat’s, but then nearly chickened out and went straight for a coffee.

However, something made us don our boots, waterproof trousers, cagoules and any other wet weather gear we could find. Maybe we thought we might be caught out in a cafe looking warm and dry – so we set off, in the rain.

The cliff top path, we thought would be too muddy, slippery and windy, so possibly dangerous, so we decided on a brisk road walk into Llantwit.

Once out and walking, we all decided that it was good to be out instead of being couch potatoes, as at least one of our number had confessed to being, on the previous day, a very wet Sunday.

Splashing along through the plentiful puddles, looking at the grey haze which was the sea in the distance we made the most of looking at what was close at hand- the daffodils, the newly coming out horse chestnut buds and leaves, the lovely moss on the walls and a beautifully ploughed but very clayey field, some glamping pods and houses we had never really stopped to inspect as usually driving past.

We were soon in Llantwit. As we returned along the road, we just saw everything from the opposite direction… rain does look much the same whichever direction!
