Sad news: It is with regret we learn of the death of Jonathan Philpin, eldest son of Brian and Janet of Heol yr Ysgol, St Brides Major. Jonathan suffered his illness bravely over the years and he will be sadly missed.

School news: St Brides Primary has gained the Platinum Eco-Schools Award by running a Fairtrade Fortnight, reducing food waste, taking part in a walk-toschool week, collecting litter, recycling and much more. Well done to the staff and pupils for winning their fifth flag.

Silver wedding: Congratula­tions to Rosemary and Joe Roughley who celebrated their 25th Wedding Anniversar­y in the Fox and Hounds on Saturday with family and friends.

Elections: The Polling Station will be in the Church Hall for you to cast your vote on 4 May 2017 for Vale of Glamorgan Town Councillor­s.

Heritage coast: Friends of the Glamorgan Heritage Coast Annual General Meeting at 2.30 pm on 7 May in the Heritage Centre, Dunraven Bay. All welcome to attend. Rangers will be giving an update on activities and refreshmen­ts will be available. Have you seen the current television series about the Glamorgan Coast which has included footage of many local places along the coastline including Southerndo­wn Beach.

Boys Brigade: Members of the 2nd Llantwit Major Company will be taking part in the Lions Charity Swim Gala at Ynysawdre Pool on 7 May 2017 when many local groups can raise funds for their own projects by entering a team of swimmers. Visit www.bridgendli­ons.org. uk

Village market: 10 am on 13 May in the Church Hall, St Brides. Many stalls and seasonal items. Tea & Chat will also be meeting and the library will be open for customers.

Beach clean up: Local PCSO Angela Stone together with Tom Ashmon of Keep Wales Tidy are organising a beach litter pick on 16 May beginning at 11 am in Ogmore-by-Sea car
